My dog keeps throwing up yellow bile for days. What could it be?

My 6 year old shit Tzu has been throwing up yellow bile two - three times a day for the past three days, what could cause this

Poor Alfalfa! I'm sorry to hear that he isn't feeling well. There are quite a few different things that could cause vomiting like this. He may have a GI problem such as pancreatitis or an intestinal obstruction; a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease; or may have gotten into something toxic.

My usual rule of thumb for vomiting is that if it continues for more than 24 hours, a vet visit is needed - even if he is acting normal otherwise. A mild upset stomach should resolve itself within a day or so, so if he has been vomiting for the past three days, I would be concerned that something more serious may be wrong. I would recommend taking Alfalfa to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - he/she can do blood work and x-rays to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

I would recommend you start supportive care (like Famotiidne 05-1.0mg/kg every 12 hrs and a bland diet like Purina EN Gastrointestinal canned food OR boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese. Poor guy. It sounds like Indiana has a severe stomach upset. Yellow vomit is bile, which indicates he has an empty stomach and can't vomit anything else up. It also sounds like he is lethargic, which means that it is best to get him to your vet for treatment. Hopefully he just ate something that upset his stomach, because many underlying illnesses can cause GI (gastrointestinal) symptoms like these. The vet should be able to do a good physical exam and get his vitals to determine if there is likely something else underlying going on here or not. Poor Milo. It could be a number things causing this including a severe GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, pancreatitis, or an illness like kidney disease. It's concerning he's been throwing up all around the house today, so I think it's best he sees a vet now. I'd recommend taking him into one immediately.

Vomiting is sometimes seen with conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis and chronic kidney disease, among many other conditions. Given Mugsy's young age and the fact that he is otherwise doing fine and this is sporadic, dietary indiscretion appears more likely. It may be something as easy as just changing his diet to something that he can tolerate better. However, an examination by a veterinarian as well as minimal diagnostic data would be needed to rule out more concerning things. You can start by changing his diet to a sensitive stomach type diet. If no improvement, have him examined by a veterinarian to start therapy if needed based on findings. Good luck!

My dog is vomiting yellow liquid and froth for 2 days. What's wrong?

Poor Jasper! Vomiting can have a wide array of causes, but in a younger dog, a foreign body obstruction/blockage, stomach upset form eating inappropriate food, viruses, or parasites are among the more common culprits. Since Jasper has been vomiting a good bit for the past 2 days, he should be examined by his vet today. If there is even a possible suspicion that he may have eating something that he shouldn't have, he will need abdominal x-rays to determine if a foreign body intestinal obstruction is suspected. Jasper may also need to have blood testing (CBC, chemistry, cPL) or fecal testing. Do not feed Jasper until he has seen his vet today for an exam.

He could have an infection or a parasite causing the vomiting and diarrhea. He should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can test a fecal sample to determine if he has a parasite and then prescribe medications to help treat the problem.

Poor Gulliver! He could have an upset stomach from too many treats. If he is otherwise acting fine, you could withhold food for the day and then try a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice and see how he does with that. If the vomiting continues or he becomes lethargic then he needs to be seen by your vet for treatment. Hope he feels better soon!
