My new dog threw up worms. Is my family safe from getting sick?

Roundworms and stomach worms are possible and can cause a significant amount of damage if left untreated. Additionally, roundworms are zoonotic meaning people can contract them through infestation with their larvae, necessitating treatment. As long as she isn't acting sick, just make an appointment to have her examined by a veterinarian within a few days and a fecal examination performed to determine what kind of worms they are and what the best medication is to treat Diamond for them. As long as he's been dewormed and you clean up after Peso you should be fine having him in a small area of the house. I would wash your children's hands after touching him also. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like Koga has roundworms. The eggs of intestinal parasites are shed in his poop not from his fur. You need to clean up the stools as soon as he goes to prevent contamination of the environment. Your son should be ok as long as he isn’t eating the poop. Just make sure to wash his hands after he plays with the puppy or before he eats. You will need to treat Koga twice (3 weeks apart) and the you should be all set. Good luck and kisses to Koga!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes! Cooper could get the roundwroms from your friends dog if he eats her stool. Hopefully that won't happen. If your puppy is on heartworm prevention then he is also getting dewormed as well. I hope this helps!

This is a roundworm. He is old enough to give pyrantel a safe dewormer that is for roundworms and hook worms. That dewormer is inexpensive. You may be able to purchase it at your pet or feed store depending on where you live. Otherwise your veterinarian can deworm him. Proton should be dewormed every two weeks until a stool sample comes back negative. When he is old enough to start heartworm medication that also will prevent another parasite infection. Please keep the children away from his poop and wash their hands and yours after handling Proton. People can get roundworms but it is not common with normal hygiene. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Your children would have to get Max's stool in their mouths or mucous membranes. As long as you pick up his stool and cleaning up after any accidents that usually prevents any infections in children. Kids can also get it from eating contaminated dirt.
