Dog threw up after tramadol powder by syringe. Was it a side effect?

I am so very sorry for your loss of Lucy. Tramadol is generally a very safe drug and does not have the risk for liver or kidney damage the way some other medications do. Unfortunately, it sounds like Lucy's kidneys may have just started failing coincidentally after she had been on Tramadol for 3 weeks. I'm very sorry to hear about Gizmo. Half of a 25mg Rimadyl tablet is a relatively normal dose for a 10.4lb animal, maybe a little high, but not enough to usually cause a significant problem in the short term. Some of the side effects that can occur with Rimadyl do include vomiting and dark tarry stool as a result of ulceration of the stomach lining. It is not a very common side effect but it is something that we can see. Without a full autopsy, it is impossible to know for sure why Gizmo passed. However, it certainly is curious that he was having those clinical signs immediately after giving the medication.

Discontinue both medications and take Lady in to be seen by a veterinarian. I would recommend testing her blood to ensure there are no blood abnormalities and so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps and that Lady gets better soon!

I am sorry to hear of your loss of Tilly. I'm sure this has been hard on you. In my opinion, it sounds as though there was some systemic disease process going on that lead to her untimely passing. I do not think the steroids had anything to do with this. It is possible she had a viral infection as well or something she ate that lead to her passing. You could always request to have an autopsy performed on her to help determine what the cause could have been. Again, I am sorry to hear that Tilly is no longer with you. I'm sorry to hear that Missy is not feeling well. The signs you describe can definitely be caused by pain, or any number of internal conditions. While tramadol is relatively safe when given to healthy animals at the correct dosage, it is also somewhat of a sedative, and may mask underlying health conditions. I recommend having Missy seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine what is going on. Your vet may perform blood work or x-rays after a good physical exam to reach a diagnosis. That should not be a problem. The only risk is that Tramadol won't be effective. I would recommend to have Gum Gum checked if the signs (pain and inappetence) are not getting any better in the next 12-24hours.

Hello. I am so sorry for your pet's diagnosis. While there is a dose of Tramadol available for dogs, we have now learned that it is not a great drug for pain relief. It is often used here as a multi-modal approach to pain using Tramadol with an NSAID & Gabapentin. With severe pain, a fentanyl patch may be required. You really need to visit with your veterinarian to make sure your pet is as pain free as possible for the rest of his life.
