Why are my dog's teeth brown at the top? What's the health risk?

The teeth and gums look very healthy on the pictures you posted. Teeth are very white in puppies and very young dogs, but the colour turns slightly yellow in adult dogs. I think that could be the reason in Bruno's case. His teeth definitely don't give him any problems and he will not have kidneys or heart disease because of that. Please, keep brushing the teeth as you do. The next time you see your vet, you can always ask them to quickly check Bruno's teeth.

Good on you for brushing Cleo's teeth a couple of times a week! That is really awesome. Brushing the teeth is great, but there can still be tartar build up over time. Cleo could have also injured her tooth biting in something hard. I would have her seen by a vet for this tooth problem. She may benefit from a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing, and the vet can examine the tooth to determine why it is brown and how best to treat it. I would have her seen by a vet this week.

That looks like the start of plaque and staining. You may not be able to brush that off as it usually requires a scaler and polisher to remove. It is normal over time for that to happen and it is just him constantly eating and chewing, the same as us. Over time more will develop on all the teeth and will need them clean, but for the now, the gums are healthy and there is no sign of an infection so just try to keep brushing as often as you can

AT that age, dental disease is common. The odor and discolorations indicate an infection due to gingivitis and tartar build up. The only way to have that removed is the have her teeth cleaned at your vet. They can clean around the gums and polish teeth similar to how ours are done. They will remove any damaged or infected teeth. You will likely need antibiotics to go along with this to further treat the infection and continue with brushing to help prevent this again

I'm sorry that you are dealing with this with Kohl. Dental disease is very common in our dogs. If Kohl had 2 teeth fall out and needed 3 teeth extracted at his dental last year, then he likely had fairly significant dental disease. Often, we try to save as many teeth as we can when we perform a dental, but if they are too diseased, then our efforts may be futile. A tooth becomes discolored when its blood supply is interrupted. If Kohl frequently uses his front teeth to pull on things, this could be due to trauma. Once a tooth is discolored, it is considered "dead" and should be removed to prevent infection. Unfortunately, I would recommend that Kohl have another dental performed. If your vet did not do x-rays of his mouth, he should have that done and have any teeth extracted that have abnormal bone on x-rays. If your vet does not have dental x-ray, you can go to a veterinary dentist. What you read is TYPICALLY true- but I have seen exceptions- mostly in very severe dental disease, patients with suppressed immune systems, and patients with very crowded teeth. However, based on Teddy’s listed breed, age, and size, I’m guessing he doesn’t fall into those categories. I don’t think it’s likely an urgent matter, but do bring it up to your vet the next time you go.

Hi, According to the pic I think it is a tartar built up. Too much plaque and tartar build-up can push the gums away from the teeth, exposing new areas for bacteria to develop which causes inflammation of the dog's gums (also seen in the picture the gum line seems inflamed). But it can also lead to cavities, infection, tissue destruction, tooth loss, and even pus (abscess) formation. So please schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to see if your dog is a candidate for a dental scale and polish.
