Why is my dog's tail bloody, black, and losing fur with a foul odor?

It could be King Midas has happy tail syndrome. This is when they wag their tail so vigorously that causes serious damage to the tip of the tail when they hit a hard service multiple times. The skin at or near the tip of the tail gets abraded so much so that it starts to bleed. I would take him into the vet for this problem. The vet can diagnose what is causing his bleeding, and if he does have happy tail syndrome, they can discuss treatment options. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It looks like Bella likely either has an infection on her tail or may have possibly injured/broken a bone. Both conditions can cause swelling and pain. First make sure you protect the tail by having Bella wear an elizabethan collar. The more she chews on it, the worse she makes it. Secondly, call her doctor and get her in asap for an exam and appropriate medication as it likely hurts. If she will allow you to apply cool compresses, that can help with the swelling and the pain. You can wet a rag and put it in the refrigerator (NOT the freezer) for 5 minutes then apply it to the area. If she does not tolerate it, allow the rag to warm up a little (too cold might be uncomfortable as well). Hope she starts feeling better!

I'm sorry Samantha's tail was slammed in a dog! First off, you did exactly the right thing by taking her into the vet. The problem with tail wounds is that dogs wag their tails, putting the wound at risk of opening back up. If Samantha is wagging her tail, that's probably why you are still seeing a bit of blood. If it's only a bit of blood, then I wouldn't be concerned. If it's a lot of blood, I would be concerned, and then you should take her back into your vet. It's impossible to get a dog to stop wagging their tail, so I recommend putting a bandage over the wound where it's bleeding in an effort to stop the bleeding. Don't put the bandage on so tight that it restricts blood flow to the tail. Samantha may want to bite and chew at the bandage, so I would get an Ecollar from the pet store to prevent her from doing that.

Poor pup!!! Pooping blood is always a concern and she needs to see a veterinarian as it means there is a compromise of the colon wall. Causes for blood in the stool can be many things from parasites to pancreatitis. Your doctor will decide appropriate diagnostics and treatment after a physical exam and thorough history. The flea dirt indicates that she has fleas. Flea dirt is just flea feces and it is commonly found on the back end of pets. I recommend to use a good flea product such as Simparica or Comforts. You will need to treat all the animals in the house for a solid 6 months to get through the whole flea life cycle. The flea dirt will wash off with a routine bath. Go ahead and switch her to a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled white rice. Do not feed her anything else. This will allow her gut to rest. Poor Sassy! She could have injured herself causing the sore, or she could be very itchy leading her to bite in that area thus creating the sore. I would gently clean the sore warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

Poor Scarlet. If the wound is mild (the bleeding is stopping on its won, there is no muscle or deep tissue exposure, etc), you can apply pressure to stop the bleeding and clean the wound with saline rinse and apply triple antibiotic ointment. An E-collar or "cone" can prevent licking/biting and further trauma as the wound heals. However, if the bleeding does not stop on it's own, Scarlet appears to be in pain, or the wound is very deep, Scarlet should be seen by a vet right away, as she may need sutures, antibiotics, and pain medication.
