Poor pup!!! Pooping blood is always a concern and she needs to see a veterinarian as it means there is a compromise of the colon wall. Causes for blood in the stool can be many things from parasites to pancreatitis. Your doctor will decide appropriate diagnostics and treatment after a physical exam and thorough history.
The flea dirt indicates that she has fleas. Flea dirt is just flea feces and it is commonly found on the back end of pets. I recommend to use a good flea product such as Simparica or Comforts. You will need to treat all the animals in the house for a solid 6 months to get through the whole flea life cycle. The flea dirt will wash off with a routine bath.
Go ahead and switch her to a bland diet of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% plain boiled white rice. Do not feed her anything else. This will allow her gut to rest. Hi, sorry to hear about these problems with your pup. First I would consider changing his food onto something for a dog with a sensitive stomach and se if that helps at all. Blood in firm stool can indicate straining so it's possible the food has too much fiber in it and is making his stool too hard. You can try a prescription diet made by Hill's called ID which is for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Also, you might want to look into an abdominal ultrasound or endoscopy to check for Inflammatory bowel disease. I don't think X rays will show up with much, i would go straight to the ultrasound. If they see anything suspicious, during endoscopy they can take biopsies. But then again, if he's not bothered by it in any way and keep on weight with a good appetite, it may just be food related or something he will grow out of. I would monitor him for those signs and pursue more diagnostics if you see them. Good luck, I hope this helps!

My dog has reddish-black spots. Is it flea dirt, a rash, or something else?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to see the skin in your pictures but it looks like a rash or comedones. If the reddish black things on her skin flakes off or are loose, wet them on a white tissue. If they melt away to a red streak that is flea poop. Flea dips and shampoos are NOT preventatives for fleas and the fleas that hatch on the carpet will jump right back on the pet. Fleas do not lay eggs on the pet but on the carpet. Bed bugs do not live on animals. I recommend a flea preventative like oral Nexgard, Simparica, Bravecto or topical Advantix ii or the Seresto collar. If there are no live fleas or flea dirt then she likely has a secondary skin infection or rash from an allergic reaction the the fleas. I would have her seen by your Vet so she can be provided relief. Also it looks like she has a paw infection which could be from environmental or food allergies. Good luck!

My 15-year-old Brussels Griffon has bloody stools after new flea meds.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Bloody stools like that can happen from colitis for example which can be secondary to stress or an infection for instance. I recommend you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and to start her on therapy. Most cases of colitis respond well to medications like metronidazole. Also, it is important to make sure she is not dehydrated as that can happen from repetitive bowel movements. Good luck and have a good day!

These signs may be compatible with a gastrointestinal inflammation involving the last part of the gastrointestinal system (colon). Presence of fresh blood in the feces is quite common but usually not very concerning unless other signs are present as well (lethargy and inappetence for example). As a first line approach a part from pepto tablets, I would recommend to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Why is my dog throwing up and pooping black? Is it serious?

Black stool could indicate blood in the stool. Vomiting, and black stool could be caused by parasites, change in diet, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. In the case of an unspayed female dog , pyometra (a potentially fatal infection of the uterus) is a possibility as well, and this is very concerning. Please have Cassie seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, as vomiting and possible blood in the stool can lead to dehydration and anemia, and can be very dangerous if left untreated. I recommend taking in a fecal sample from Cassie to your vet as well, as that may aid them in making a diagnosis. Good luck, and I hope she feels better soon!

My dog has itchy black scabs near her tail. Is it fleas or something else?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Baby Girl! I think what your describing can still be fleas, especially if you are seeing small black things running around on her skin. Or if you are seeing black squiggley flecks that when wet on a paper towel 'melt" to bloody streaks (flea poop). Flea baths and topical flea treatments do not work as well to prevent fleas from jumping back on the dog. Frequent bathing strips products like Frontline, Advantage/Advantix and Revolution. I have seen dogs infested with fleas where Frontline is used. The fact that Baby Girl has sores makes me recommend that you have her examined by your Vet .She has to be uncomfortable and likely needs antibiotics and something to relieve the itch (prednisone or apoquel). The Vet can check her well for fleas and prescribe a more effective flea preventative (Nexgard, Bravecto, Simparica, Seresto Collar). I hope this helps and I wish Baby Girl a speedy recovery!
