My overweight dog has symmetrical groin lumps. Is it a hernia?

When internal organs slip through an umbilical hernia, the swelling tends to become larger very quickly and is very painful. That does not seem to be the case with Charlie which is good. Umbilical hernias are normally present at birth and should not develop later in life. This swelling also looks like it is a little higher than his umbilicus, so it may not be an umbilical hernia. Depending on what your vet thinks, they may perform a fine needle aspirate to collect a few cells and decide what it is and if anything needs to be done about it. If it is a benign mass, they may not recommend any treatment. If they think it may be a hernia or if they see any concerning cells, they may recommend surgery. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At the base of the penis, in neutered and unneutered male dogs, a gland called the bulbourethral gland. This is quite common and nothing to be concerned about. Based on the picture you have provided, I would say that this is what you are seeing and is nothing to be concerned about. I hope this helps! Hello. If Scarlett has 2 lumps pretty much over each hip, & with Scarlett being a slightly older dog, then my guess is she has "love handles". If Scarlett is also a little overweight, the hips are a common place for some fat to accumulate. Rest assured that tumors rarely happen in the same area on both sides of the body, & since your vet is rather unconcerned, then it sounds like Scarlett is fine. If you are really concerned, you can ask your veterinarian to do a fine needle aspirate in which a very small needle is used to remove a drop or 2 of sample from under the lumps. This looks completely normal to me. Appears to be the bulbourethral glands that you have circled. I would not be concerned about this at all. Rule of thumb, if things are symmetrical they are usually normal. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I am unsure what is gong on with Frank based on the picture. If the lump is only seen when he is laying down I would think it is not concerning. However if the lump gets bigger or the patient is acting sick I would recommend taking frank to the vet for a good physical exam and to determine the cause of the lump. hope that helps

These are typically benign and cause no harm. If you want to be sure of what this is, I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Roxy and this area to help better determine what this could be. Additional testing such as a fine needle aspirate, where the vet inserts a small needle into the lump and looks at the cells under the microscope, can easily be done. I hope this helps! These lumps needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growths and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.
