Is my 8-year-old Yorkie's swollen under-eye a tooth problem?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 8 years and 4 months old

Hi, my pet is an 8 years old yorkie. His left under eye area got swollen and was red. I took him to the vet and they said that it might be bacuse of a tooth problem, which caused his face to sweel, but later we realised that was not the case. He scratched it and opened the wound which bled and then healed. We thought the problem ended there but I just noticed that it is getting swollen again. His eye itself is ok. What can be the cause? And what should I do? Thanks in advance.

Unless you had dental X-rays taken under anesthesia, then there is no way to know for sure this is not a tooth root abscess from a bad tooth. This is by far the most common cause for facial swelling in a small breed dog of Jacky's age. Schedule a full dental procedure to include dental X-rays to fix this likely problem.
