Dog has swollen tooth, bad breath, acting weird. Is it an abscess?

This is definitely suspicious of an abscess. I've also seen trauma (hit their face on something hard) cause fluid swelling that looks the same, so hopefully this is the case rather than an abscess. It definitely appears that something is causing an infection in the mouth. Diseased teeth could be the cause, but could also be due to a laceration in the mouth, or a foreign object stuck in her mouth. The drooling is likely due to the mouth problem, but the shaking is a bit worrying. This could indicate pain, but in worse cases could indicate shock. Unfortunately, I would need more information and in order to determine if this is an emergency or not. For this, you would be better off having an online consult with one of our vets. Yes, that is a common presentation with a molar tooth infection. The tooth will need to be extracted and they will put Tootsie in antibiotics for the infection. Blood work is usually done before anesthesia and they will scale and polish the teeth and check the rest to make sure they are healthy. Once the mouth is healed then you can start brushing her teeth or using another dental product. They may also put Tootsie on pain medication. Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I would recommend having this examined by a veterinarian. This type of swelling we can see with severe tooth root abscesses. It is likely reksio will need a course of oral antibiotics and an anti inflammatory. I would get this seen sooner rather than later as this type of infection will conti i.e. to grow bigger until the infection is treated and the tooth removed that is causing the problem otherwise, this can rupture through the skin and he will be left with a large wound on the face. Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Freyja. It does look like she has a tooth root abscess, most likely involving the 4th upper premolar. Antibiotics usually clears the infection very nicely, but often the tooth needs to be removed. As long as Freyja is eating well & is in no significant discomfort, you can wait to have her seen. Given the location, it could be a tooth root abscess. It isn't an emergency, but is likely uncomfortable. If Dolly is behaving normally, she can probably see her veterinarian in the morning. An oral exam can be done to determine if there is periodontal disease and if so, if it is severe enough to cause an abscess. A complete dental cleaning and possibly extractions may be necessary. If an abscess is ruled out, your veterinarian can perform a fine needle aspirate of the lump to collect samples for pathology. This may provide a diagnosis. Treatment options can be discussed once results are returned.
