My dog's stomach is swollen and sounds like a drum. Is it bloat?

I'm glad that Bailey seems to be feeling okay despite her new abdominal distension. The abdomen can become distended from either a mass or fluid accumulation from right sided congestive heart failure, liver failure, or cancer. Any of these conditions can progress and worsen rapidly, so I recommend taking Bailey to her vet fairly urgently for evaluation to get to the bottom of this issue. She may need to have chest and abdominal x-rays and/or ultrasound, or have a sample of fluid drained from her abdomen for analysis. I hope this helps and that all goes well for Bailey!

If Faithlynn had bloat, you would not only see an enlarged belly, but you would also see pacing, restlessness, anxiety, excessive drooling, and trying to vomit but cannot. A bigger belly only simply could be due to a big meal.

First off, I'm very sorry your lost your grandmother! Please accept my condolences for your loss. I see that she isn't spayed, and I would be concerned Bailey could have a pyometra. This is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. It would cause her to not eat and have a swollen stomach. She needs to see a vet immediately, this is not something you can treat at home. Please take her into a vet now. Best of luck.

Poor Maddie! She looks like such a sweet girl! Abdominal distension or swelling can be very concerning, especially in female dogs that are not spayed as it can be a sign of a pyometra, an infection in the uterus which can be life threatening. It can also be caused by enlargement of one of her organs or a mass, or even bleeding somewhere in the abdomen. These are all critical cases and require being seen as soon as possible by a vet. Maddie may have eaten something bad for her which has made her gassy and bloated, which can be ruled out as well. Poor Chaca! It's very concerning when I hear of a dog that has sudden bloat and a hard belly, not to mention an abnormal stomach. She could have bloat, which is a fatal condition without treatment. I would have Chaca seen by a vet immediately for this, as it is a medical emergency.

I"m sorry Maisey isn't feeling well! More likely with a very hard stomach, she is groaning because she is in pain. Stomach swelling in dogs can also result from the dog eating too much all at once, internal bleeding due to trauma or a ruptured mass, intestinal obstruction, or tumors. Peritonitis and ascites (fluid in the abdomen) can also cause a swollen stomach, as well as Cushing's disease. I recommend you get Maisey into your vet as soon as possible. This has been going on for a few days, and it's clearly not going to resolve on it's own. She needs medical attention from a vet, who can diagnose and treat the problem.

These symptoms are very concerning for a possible organ enlargement in the abdomen or even heart disease (causes fluid build up in the belly). I would highly recommend taking Buttons in to your vet for some testing (bloodwork and radiographs) to determine the exact cause of her illness.
