My Aussie puppy has a swollen side, acts fine. Is it an emergency?

This lump on Oliver could be a cyst, an abscess, a lipoma (benign fatty tumor), or another type of benign tumor. In a dog his age, it would be rare for it to be malignant. Regardless, this is something that should be checked out by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I'd make an appointment with the vet for him on Monday to have this lump examined and diagnosed so it can be treated as needed. He’s a handsome boy! I recommend a vet visit for Oliver. The swelling could be due to a dental abscess or infection, cancer, infected salivary gland or even a foreign body in his mouth. Though that last maybe less likely if he doesn’t appear bothered by it. But the vet can do a thorough physical and oral exam to try to characterize the lump a little better. Depending on what they see they may Recommend a fine needle aspirate, a dental cleaning and assessment, or biopsy if it appears to be a mass. Swollen bellies in puppies can be caused by a number of things including allergies, parasites, GI upset, or even something that is causing swelling of the skin or abdomen, or issues with the chest or internal organs. If the swelling continues, it would be best to bring Oscar to the vet to have the area evaluated and treated as needed. If it is causing any discomfort or symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, pain on touch, changes in shape or size, problems breathing, lethargy, etc, then seeking care sooner is best.

It could be that he is accumulating some fluid in his abdomen. This could be from low protein, cancer, liver disease or heart disease. It could also be that his liver or another internal organ such as his spleen is markedly enlarged. Or, it could be nothing, and he's just changed the way he carries some of his weight over time and there is not an issue. The only way to find out is to take him to the vet. Since he's acting normal and otherwise doing well, and you can't afford it right now, I don't think you need to stress too much over it. When its possible financially , get him to the vet. Hello there, Thanks for the good photo. Good work with the benadryl and saline eye flush- those are great first steps. She is likely fine to wait to see her regular veterinarian, as long as she still has energy and an appetite. It appears like her face may have some muscular muscle wasting that is allowing her eyes to protrude more. There are a few things that can cause this- your vet will be able to tell you more after a good physical exam. I'd get her in to see someone this week for sure.

If it doesn't seem painful, it's staying the same size and if Beau is acting completely normal, I don't think it's an emergency. I would get him examined this week. Once the area is palpated, the veterinarian will have a much better idea what it is and then treatment will be discussed. If it seems painful or changing, or Beau seems to be not himself, I recommend to get him in right away. Check it every day and lightly press around on it to check for pain.
