My dog has a swollen nose with open sores. Is it a bite or allergy?

This could be due to an infection or an allergic reaction for example. I would highly recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I see what you mean about the swelling, it is quite pronounced! This could be from a bug bite or it could be an allergic reaction. Oftentimes Benadryl is not strong enough to treat these issues, and stronger drugs like steroids may be needed. The best thing to do for her is take her into a vet immediately to get this treated. It could be an allergic reaction of some kind, a bacterial or fungal infection, or an autoimmune disease. I really think you should take her to a vet for an exam. If it is starting in other locations on her body then then I would be very worried about this being an autoimmune disease (such as pemphigus). This is not something that you will be able to treat at home.

Since she isn't responding to antibiotics I would worry that she has a tooth root abscess, a nasal tumor or a fungal infection in her nasal cavity. I would do full blood work and then sedated her to take skull X-rays and X-ray the teeth on that side of her face. I hope this helps and I wish Neo the very best!

I highly recommend that you have Cop evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and attaching pictures! Vella is a beautiful dog and I’m sorry she was bitten. From the pictures the wounds don’t look deep or infected. I would keep them clean and dry with a mild soap and water. I wouldn’t apply any ointment because she will just lick it off. If you don’t see any drainage, feel any heat, or note any pain I would continue to monitor it. She will likely not need antibiotics. Unfortunately, we cannot prescribe medications through this site, so she would have to see a vet but I doubt you will need to do that. Good luck and kisses to Vella!
