My dog's foot is swollen from a bite, what if I can't afford a vet?

As the swelling is in several different places i suspect a severe infection in that foot, she will need to have a course of oral antibiotics, if you cannot afford a vet please contact the human society or another dog charity in your area of living, they might be able to help.

Ouch! Poor Maggie! That swelling around the bite is an indication of infection and looks like Maggie needs antibiotics. It also looks very painful so Maggie needs to go to a veterinarian to have it evaluated. That bite is near a joint so I would take her right away to avoid any serious infections.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Bite wounds are very dangerous, particularly, when a large dog with powerful jaws bites smaller dog. The main damage is under the skin, the extend of trauma cannot be appropriated by only looking at the punctures. What's is more bite wounds are painful and almost always get infected. Please, take Buddy to your local vets as soon as possible as he may be in serious trouble.

If there is swelling and it feels hot to the touch and painful then these are signs that infection is present (bite wounds/punctures are unfortunately prone to infeciton) and oral antibiotics are likely needed. I would make an appointment with your vet to get the wound examined. In the meantime, applying an ice pack to the area for 10 minutes every few hours may provide some relief to the pain (be sure to wrap the ice pack in a thin cloth/towel so it isn't directly on the skin).

I'm so sorry this happened to Dabbu. He really needs to be seen by a veterinarian. He is sitting in the corner because he hurts. Dogs do not have very clean mouths so when they bite they often inject bacteria into the bite wounds and it doesn't take long for bites to become infected. Therefore, Dabbu may have infected wounds and a fever. He really should go to a vet and get those wounds treated. He will likely need some antibiotics and some anti-inflammatory/pain medication so he will feel better. I wish there was some treatment I could tell you to do at home but without seeing the wounds myself there is nothing I can tell you and I certainly cannot prescribe mediation over the internet. Antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications are needed to speed up recovery time and resolve the swelling completely. Dinsifection must be provided as well with hibiscrub or betadine diluted. I would recommend an immediate check up at your local vet practice.

This could be due to an infection, but depending on what bit him, he could have been bitten hard enough to cause a break in the bone, leading to the swelling. It could also be due to an insect bite. I would have him seen by a vet today or tomorrow. The vet can diagnose what is causing this swelling, and can treat him. I hope this helps!
