My puppy has a swollen face. Will a possible fracture heal on its own?

Since this is still going on and not getting better, you need to take her to the vet as soon as possible. There are a number of injuries she could have, including fractures to her head or neck that are likely responsible for the pain and the droopy face and swelling. She could have a broken or displaced jaw that causes pain, making her reluctant to eat. This doesn't seem to be improving so she needs medical attention right away. Your vet will do an exam, x-rays, possibly additional labwork, and based on these results, will be better able to tell you what is going on and how best to treat it.

Poor Peppie! It depends on where the fracture is, and whether it is displaced. I have had good luck with fractures of the mandibular symphasis (the very front of the bottom jaw) by having the dog wear a loose-fitting soft muzzle for ~6 weeks and feeding exclusively soft food. The muzzle would be loose enough for Peppie to lap water and soft food, but tight enough that he couldn't totally open his jaw and it would help stabilize. He would wear this 24 hours a day, including while eating and sleeping. Your vet will likely be familiar with this so I recommend calling and asking if this might help. It would only be beneficial for specific types of jaw fractures so it's important for your vet to give the go-ahead first, since they know the specifics of Peppie's fracture but I've had good success using this technique. Luna is adorable! This swelling could be an abscess. It could be abnormal erruption of a tooth. Those are the two things that come to mind at first glance. I really think she needs to see a vet for this issue. I don't think it's an emergency but she should be seen soon. They can definitely heal on their own and they heal especially well with puppies. However, it may heal at an angle, which can cause a life-long limp and issues with arthritis. This particular fracture involves the growth plate, which can increase the possibility that it won't heal correctly. The advantage of surgery is that the fracture can be aligned appropriately, which will shorten healing time and reduce chances of future complications. This would not be an easy surgery though and would likely require an orthopedic specialist to do it; which can get quite expensive. If you want to pursue surgery, then it's best to ask your veterinarian for a referral to an orthopedic specialist. Otherwise it's possible for it to heal fine with casting/splinting and time. I would keep a close eye on it, but she doesn't need to be rushed to an emergency clinic unless she's lethargic, refusing to eat, or the swelling is getting noticeably worse. This could be something as mild as a bug bite or previously unnoticed injury (particularly if she happens to live with a cat, but she could have scrapped herself on something a few days ago without it being obvious). Poor Koda! It sounds like she was bitten by something, and she has developed an abscess where she was bitten. She will need to see a vet today. An abscess is extremely painful, and if she does have one, it will need to be open, drained, and flushed sterilely. She will also need antibiotics to treat the infection. Please take her into a vet now.

Since she is eating and drinking normally, the best thing to do is try to not let her run and jump and play the best your can, you want to let her rest. You can apply a cold compress to the area since it is red and swollen now to help. Your vet can check her and see if need to be lanced and flushed or just antibiotics
