My dog's anus looks swollen after stuck poop. Should I worry?

There are a few things that can cause this such as parasites and in uncommon instances cancer such as lymphoma, among other possibilities. Your veterinarian would be able to examine her more closely and see what seems likely so that therapy can be started. Hopefully it is just a case of parasites as it is most of the time. It is a little difficult to say exactly what is going on with Daisy - she may have a recital prolapse (a condition where some of the tissue in the rectum actually comes out) or chronic irritation if she is scooting on carpeted areas. Scooting may be related to anal gland impactions, infections, or intestinal parasites. I recommend having Daisy seen by a vet as soon as possible because she is likely uncomfortable and the conditions above require treatment. I hope all is well!

This warrants a veterinary evaluation to determine what seems to be extent of this as well as the possible cause. It is possible that Mickey has lost his anal tone which may be causing him to continue to defecate as you described. Treatment would be highly dependent on the cause of this. Thank you for providing pictures of Madden's anus for me to see. From the pictures, it could be that he has a rectal prolapse, or he could have impacted anal sacs causing this redness and swelling. The best thing to do is take him into a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing this redness and swelling, and can treat him for it. Good luck, I hope this helps!

From what I can see from the photo I think this looks more like inflammation or infection. Sometimes when dogs have diarrhoea they rub their bums which can lead to raw skin which in turn can become infected. Another possibility is an anal gland infection, these can burst out suddenly. There is always a possibility that it could be a tumour but it doesn't look like the typical tumours you get around the anus. With appropriate treatment an infection should heal within one to two weeks, whereas tumours would require more investigation/invasive treatment. I would chat to your bet about getting some meds for your dog if they haven't been prescribed already. Running bloods would also be prudent and may give further clues to the cause.

You can see some swelling after expression of the anal sacs. Given that Sofia is pooping fine, I would just keep an eye on her for now. If this swelling continues over the next few days, gets worse, or she starts having problems pooping, then I would be concerned and have her seen by a vet again.

This behavior in Brownie can be indicative of an impacted anal sac, and the lump next to his anus indicates that as well. The anal sac will need to be expressed if it's impacted, so I would take him into the vet now during normal business hours. It's important to have it expressed before it ruptures.
