My dog is swollen after mating in her first heat. Is she pregnant?

It could be that Lanzo is still in heat, as it would be too early for signs of pregnancy if she just had her first heat. Vulva and nipple swelling are also signs of heat, and it does take time for them to go down after a dog ends her heat. I would have her seen by a vet in three weeks for a blood test called relaxin. This is a hormone produced when a dog is pregnant. While it isn't advisable for a dog to get pregnant on her first heat, it does happen and as long as you work with your vet during her pregnancy, she can be ok.

This is definitely possible that she is already back in heat. She could also have an infection so be sure to keep an eye out for any abnormal behavior like not eating, lethargy, or vomiting. They normally stay joined for several minutes. Once the swelling from the male decrease they will part. There is s likely chance she may be pregnant from this but never a guarantee. The best recommendations are to breed a female after 18 months of age to allow full maturity. if she is younger than a year then she may need a c section to help with delivery. When she comes out of heat in 2 weeks then you can schedule to have her spayed before anything develops
