My dog swallowed Babybel wax. Will it cause an intestinal blockage?

The concern that I would have about this wax seal is that it could caused an intestinal blockage. Given that Marley ate it 12 hours ago, there's nothing you can do but monitor her. It can take up to 72 hours for it to pass. Should she start vomiting, having diarrhea, becomes lethargic and anorexic, or becomes constipated, she will need to see a vet immediately because those are signs of obstruction. If she does become obstructed, she will need surgery to remove the seal.

You can monitor her closely for signs consistent with a gastrointestinal obstruction such as vomiting, nausea, inappetence and abdominal pain. If any of these signs are observed, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as those may be indications of an obstruction. Monitor her for the next 24 hours. Watch for lethargy, vomiting, loss of appetite, straining to defecate or abdominal pain. If she goes beyond this with no symptoms, then she may be in the clear. If she develops any of the above symptoms, have her physically examined by your veterinarian. Pancreatitis or intestinal obstruction are real concerns after such a "meal".

Trick did eat a good size piece of vet wrap! Hopefully, it will pass through without problem, but I would monitor him to be safe for signs of obstruction just in case. These signs include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, and constipation. If you see any of those signs, I would take Trick into the vet right away. If he is a larger dog, it should pass without problem, but it's always good to observe him to be safe.

That's what we are all here for :-) Other than the potential this wrapper could cause an obstruction in Stella, there's not much to worry about if there wasn't a lot of cream cheese wrapper on it. A lot of cream cheese could cause pancreatitis, but if there was only a little on the wrapper, it's quite unlikely to cause it. Half a wrapper isn't a huge foreign body, so it this will likely pass without problem. You can monitor Stella for signs of obstruction, which include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, and constipation. If you see any of those signs, I would take her into the vet immediately. Fortunately, these small wrapers do not easily cause blockages, but unfortunately there is nothing that can be given to prevent a potential blockage. It's also not advised to give anything like a laxative, because this can be dangerous in a potential blockage. The only thing you can do is wait to see if it passes OK. Normal GI transit time is 3-5 days for such things. During this time you would just be waiting to see if she has any signs of an obstruction. Signs of an obstructions are vomiting, not defecating, acting very painful/depressed and a decrease in appetite. If you notice these signs, then Betty would need to go to the vet immediately for emergency surgery.  I hope that helps and all is well with Betty.

At this stage feeding bulky food and monitoring is the best way to go. Signs of intestinal blockage are obvious and you will be able to notice them right away. Dogs with a blockage go off their food, vomit and show abdominal pain. They become weak and lethargic. What is also very important, dogs with a blockage are not passing any stools (soemtimes they try to pass but they are not able to). So, for now keep any eye on your dog and if you see any of these signs get in touch with your way right away. He is a large dog, so there is a good chance that he will pass the piece of leather in his stools.
