2yr old golden/lab with lump on rib cage behind shoulder. Very quick onset, within hours. No pain or itching. About 2in long and 1in wide. Lump feels hard toward the shoulder and softens. No redness, puncture or bite marks. What could it be?

By the picture it also looks like the skin is bruised. An infection (abscess) is high on my list, but other possibilities such as a tumor are likely as well. Teeny needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian today if possible. If that is a large infection it will need to be drained and antibiotics will need to be started. Good luck! I hope he heals soon!
