Why is my dog struggling to walk with diarrhea after ocean water?

I also had an incidence one where my dog drank a lot of salt water at the beach, but she unfortunately vomited all in my car! Good idea to keep him hydrated, and it's a good sign that he is eating drinking, and playing with his toys. I would try to rest Whiskey tonight, and have him stay as quiet as possible so his stomach can heal up from the salt water. Should he start vomiting, the diarrhea continues, he becomes lethargic, he stops eating, or shows any concerning symptoms, I would have him seen by a vet right away. Hopefully, however, this will pass relatively quickly.

Severe gastrointestinal impaction and constipation or diarrhoea can result from the ingestion of sand. A check up is needed to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. It certainly sounds like Bella could have gotten into something toxic and it is a medical emergency. When a dog walks like they are drunk, that can be a sign of antifreeze ingestion. Depending on what she ate, she could diet without veterinary treatment and it is imperative that she is seen by a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Shasta is experiencing two very different issues that may not have anything to do with one another unfortunately. In terms of hind end lameness, the most common causes of this are traumatic injuries, inflammatory conditions (arthritis / tendinitis), infectious diseases, tick borne diseases, nutritional deficiencies, clotting disorders, and certain cancers. As for diarrhea, the common causes of this include dietary indiscretion, inflammatory conditions of the GI tract, pancreatitis, parasites, infectious diseases, immune-mediated conditions, and certain types of cancers. To address either of these issues if they have been occurring for a significant period of time, both blood work and imaging modalities would be needed. This doesn't sound like an emergency or anything, but if either of these problems has been persistent I would consider making an appointment to have Shasta seen sometime soon for a work-up. Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The clinical symptoms you describe are concerning for something serious going on with Daisy. She could be acting like that from perhaps severe dehydration and hypovolemia (lack of volume in her circulatory system) from so much diarrhea and recent history of anorexia and not drinking water. She could have also being exposed to some toxin that is affecting both her gastrointestinal and neurologic systems. I highly recommend you take her to a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible. Good luck!

Since she still has diarrhea even though she was on a bland diet, it is likely that she has an intestinal infection, and it could indeed be something she ingested with the lake water. I suggest you take her to your vet for an exam. She will likely need prescription antibiotics and/or anti-parasitic medications.

Hi Samantha! Poor Mayce, it sounds like the salt water made her ill. You can give her some pedialyte to see if that helps, but it does sounds like she may be constipated if her poop is hard. That could be from dehydration, so you can also try soaking her dry food in warm water to get more moisture into her system.
