My dog has stomach worms and won't eat. What should I feed her?

It is quite possible that he is nauseous from the medicine or he had a lot of worms which are now dying and that is causing him a tummy ache. Don;t feed him for 12 to 24 hours and then offer him some bland food such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken. Feed him small portions often. When he has regained his appetite he should be fine. There is a possibility that he will get diarrhea as well for a day or two as the body is going to try to get rid of the worms as quickly as possible.

Some dewormers may cause some gastrointestinal upset. It is good that Frankie will drink water and keep it down. Consider mixing in some unflavored PediaLyte. Try a bland diet again but warm it slightly or mix in a teaspoon of baby food to stimulate his appetite. Once he is eating regularly, transition slowly to the regular diet. If he still refuses to eat in the next 24 hours, have him examined by your veterinarian

Ideally he should be seen by a vet to stabilise his condition and correct dehydration as well as supplemental feeding and a full health check to rule out additional illnesses reducing his appetite. Consider surrendering him to your local shelter to get him the best care. In the meantime an oral worm dose carefully dosed for his weight from your vets office or pet store, pedialyte and a mousse textured high calorie recovery or puppy food is recommended

If Peggy has a large worm burden (lots of worms) then she likely feels sick and doesn't want to eat, and likely won't want to eat until the worms are gone. If the medication that your vet gave is a dewormer (typically a liquid called Panacur/Fenbendazole), then you can give it without food. This might clear out the worms and get Peggy eating again. If the medication is an antibiotic (Metronidazole, Amoxyclav), then this needs to be given with food. You can also talk to your vet about trying an anti-nausea medication to see if this helps with the appetite. If Peggy has abdominal pain, or is vomiting, please have her seen right away as high worm burdens can lead to a very life-threatening condition called intussusception. Lelia not eating is a sign that she feels very bad and it's possible that it is related to a reaction from that dewormer although other causes are possible. The big concern is that she is very young and not eating. Puppies do not have the physical reserves of an adult dog. If she has not been eating since Monday then you need to take her in for an exam and medications to soothe her stomach. You don't want her to end up with low blood sugar and need a visit to the emergency clinic! If she will not eat her own puppy food, try warmed white meat chicken and plain white rice. This is not balanced but it will be fine for a few days. If she will not eat that, she is pretty sick. With young puppies, it's best to be cautious as they are fragile. Have her checked out today if possible.
