My dog has stomach bruising after surgery, should I go to the ER?

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like there might be a small puncture near the bruised area? This would mean that Rosie was bitten on the abdomen. These types of injuries could be associated with internal damage, and should warrant immediate veterinary care. If there is no wound, then I would still be concerned about the sudden appearance of a bruise. Bruises can form if there is a bleeding or clotting issue or internal bleeding.

Some bruising after this type of procedure can be expected, but depending on Daisy's type of liver disease, clotting disorders could be possible. I would recommend calling your vet to see if she needs to be evaluated ASAP or if it is fine to continue monitoring at home.

Hello, Its hard to give you definitive advise, because this could be nothing or something. Most likely, t could also be a simple insect bite or minor trauma that resolves on its own within a couple of days. However, I'd recommend monitoring that bruise for any changes and the rest of his skin and gums for new bruising or bleeding. Mysterious bruises can be a sign of blood disorders. If Charlie experiences any additional bruising, bleeding, or changes in appetite or behavior, I'd recommend taking him to the vet right away. I hope this helps. This is similar to a bruise and indicates bleeding under the skin. The fact that it's located around the incision is less concerning than if it was all over the abdomen. However, I am a little concerned by the extent of it. If I had first-hand knowledge of the techniques used during the surgery, then I may be less concerned. The biggest concern with the bleeding is that it may indicate a clotting problem and can lead to anemia. If Sadie has a decrease in activity, the red areas spread further and/or pale gums, then I'd recommend taking her to a vet right away. Hello. That is a lot of bruising, but it just indicates that there was some subsurface capillary bleeding. This can occur in any surgery, but most often is the result of too much activity too soon after surgery. Try to confine Barklie a little more, by keeping him indoors & leash walking only for another week. If he is licking a lot, you may have to put an Elizabethan collar on him for a week or so so everything can heal. You can pick up the collars at most pet stores or even Tractor Supply if one is near you. It appears packer is having some bruising of his umbilical area. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian for a good physical exam. Some dogs have small umbilical hernias that occur at birth. Fat or even intestines can get stuck in the hernia and cause problems. Also he could be having a local skin reaction but it is really hard to tell by a picture. Poor Emma Jane! She likely got the bruise from trying to get out from under the baby gate. Given that she is otherwise acting normal, I wouldn't be worried. Should the bruise get bigger, appear to get worse than better, stops eating, and/or becomes very lethargic, then I would be concerned and have her seen by a vet right away. Hopefully however, she will be just fine :-)
