Why is my dog's stomach bloated after deworming? Is it normal?

This may be a sign that your puppy still had a good amount of worms which now have been killed with the second dose of wormer. This can make a bit of indigestion or cause a bit of gas to form. I think your puppy will be fine. By tomorrow his abdomen should be less bloated again.

This presentation is very likely due to worms, which are causing the bloat. With appropriate medications the worms will die (you will find them in the feces dead or still alive) and the bloat will progressively disappear. Mild constipation will resolve as well when parasite infestation resolves.

It is quite possible that he is nauseous from the medicine or he had a lot of worms which are now dying and that is causing him a tummy ache. Don;t feed him for 12 to 24 hours and then offer him some bland food such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken. Feed him small portions often. When he has regained his appetite he should be fine. There is a possibility that he will get diarrhea as well for a day or two as the body is going to try to get rid of the worms as quickly as possible.

You can get this swollen belly from intestinal worms. If there was something to give Roxie for it, the vet would give it to her. You have to wait and see if the deworming treatment helps. If it does not, have her seen by a vet again.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Puppies tend to have a more bloated belly. Intestinal parasites are usually the main cause of this. Sometimes the intestines are more gassy in puppies too. I would give the dewormer some more time. If there is no improvement by a week i would have her examined and bring a stool sample with you. Sometimes changing puppy food can help as well. She is due for vaccinations so a Vet exam should be happening soon anyway. Good luck!

It could be that Ranger has intestinal worms causing his belly to be bigger than usual. They can be very common in young dogs. His belly could also be bigger if he had a large meal. Because he isn't showing any other signs of bloat, then I wouldn't be too worried. Keep an eye on him, and if he does show signs of bloat, take him into a vet immediately. It definitely does look bloated. It could be from eating a large meal or from intestinal parasites (worms). I would have your vet take a look a him. They will likely want to do a fecal on him to check for worms and if needed, they will deworm him. I hope this helps!
