What's causing my dog's spreading, smelly face and paw irritation?

There are several things that could cause this to happen: bacterial or fungal infection of the skin, splinter out other foreign body under the skin, itchy nose (allergies), tooth root issues, among a few others. You can try rubbing some hydrocortisone cream into it or rubbing an ice cube on it. He may need to wear an e-collar/cone to stop the behavior. But if it continues for another day or two, I would have Perrin checked out by a vet.

The most likely cause would be a secondary bacterial or yeast infection secondary to allergies give your description. A bad odor is usually associated with overgrowth of bacteria or yeast and requires veterinary exam in order to get the appropriate medications to treat the overgrowth and also to get medication to get the inflammation under control. Until you get an appointment with your vet you should put an e-collar on her so she doesn't further traumatize the feet.

The pictures are difficult to see, but it appears that Cookie may have an infection on her skin. It may be caused by bacteria and could be secondary to scratching, fleas, or an allergy. I would get her on a good flea preventive if she's not on one already, but I think she may need to see a veterinarian as these infections sometimes need antibiotics to clear up.

Oh wow that does look painful. Lesions on the foot/footpad are most commonly either from chronic irritation, immune mediated, a symptom of disease elsewhere (such as hepatocutaneous syndrome from liver disease), allergy (although this looks quite severe for that), vasculitis, or cancer. I would recommend that your girl be seen for bloodwork, needle sampling of the lesions on her head, and likely skin biopsies of her feet. This is th best way to get to the bottom of this painful process for her and get the correct treatment prescribed. Hello! I'm sorry to see that your dog is having some trouble with her foot. It appears to moist and irritated between the toes, and there is also some swelling around the nail beds of two of her nails. I am very concerned that this may be a skin infection, and possibly also a nail bed infection (which can sometimes be tricky to treat because of how deep the nail goes into the toe). I do not recommend continuing the Zymox spray without the advice of a veterinarian, as it contains hydrocortisone (a steroid). Steroids will decrease inflammation, but they also suppress the immune system. I strongly suggest that you bring your dog to visit the vet as he or she may require antibiotics and/or antifungals to treat any potential infection she has. In the meantime, you can try soaking her foot in cool, mildly soapy water, followed by thorough drying. If your dog is licking the foot, I recommend placing an Elizabethan collar (E-collar) on his or her neck to prevent further licking, which can exacerbate inflammation and contamination with bacteria and yeast. At the vet's office, they will perform a physical exam, and most likely they will take a sample of skin cells and discharge from between those toes and around the nail bed for examination under a microscope. This will help them determine what treatment will work best. They may also give your dog some pain relievers or anti-inflammatories so that he or she is more comfortable. This can be caused by bacterial or fungal infections as well as allergic reactions. Unfortunately, some fungal infections such as ringworm can come from soil and be transmitted to people. I recommend having Brooke seen by a vet as soon as possible - she may need antibiotics to resolve the infection and itching. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Inflammation of the skin such as that shown in the picture can occur for a number of reasons including a skin infection, allergies, mange for trauma. If Jojo is scratching at the area, the lesion seems to be getting worse or if you notice inflammation elsewhere she should be seen by a veterinarian. They may recommend a skin scraping or cytology to better determine the underlying cause of the inflammation.
