My dog's spay scar has blisters and she won't stop licking it.

There is not a photo which may help. I recommend to let the vet know that the blisters have burst. They may recommend a steroid cream or something topical to put on the lesions. Make sure the keep the area clean and dry. Make sure your pet does not lick the area and she may need to wear an elizabethan collar at all times. I don't recommend to put anything on the lesions without first consulting your veterinarian. These lesions may dry up and heal on their own but your vet will know best since they can actually examine the lesions. I hope this helps and that she heals quickly.

It may be a local infection or reaction to the sutures under the skin. I would recommend that you have Dakota examined by the vet that spayed her and have them check if there is infection, which may need a course of antibiotics. If it is a tissue reaction and there is no bacteria, then a round of anti-inflammatories may help with inflammation subside. Make sure she can lick or scratch at it, since that could make it worse or cause infection.

I would recommend putting an elizabethan collar on her so she cannot lick at the area. If she continues to lick at this area then it will not resolve. If she is not licking or the lesion is just not resolving then I recommend taking her to a veterinarian. The sutures take months to fully dissolve and it may be a reaction associated with the remaining suture. It could also be unrelated and be a bite wound. It seems very inflamed and possibly infected. I would have your vet check it to see if antibiotics are needed and what the cause is

Is Precious licking at this? Does she have an elizabethan collar on? If she does not have a collar on then I would recommend putting one on her. This is starting to look infected. I would call your veterinarian and make an appointment to have them see her, but in the mean time I would recommend getting an elizabethan collar for her so she doesn't lick at this and make it worse. Hi and thanks for your request. The wound seems fairly dry even though there is some discharge. The margins of it look healthy as well. I guess that the discharge is minimal but if not (from the pic I cannot assess it, then a check up would be required ). Her general status would be very important as well to decide whether she needs to be seen or not; if she is painful, lethargic, inappetent, if she has any vomiting, diarrhoea, then a check up would be ideal. Hope this could help. At the moment there is no need for a check up in my opinion. Licking should be discouraged with any possible means. plasters and soft inflatable collars (donut-like) may be useful.

I would guess that these skin ulcerations are from licking and not related to the surgery three months ago. I’d recommend having your vet take a look in person. It’s possible that Beezus has allergies or another skin condition causing a secondary skin infection.
