My dog's spay incision is leaking on and off. Should I see a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed

My 6month old GSD was spayed 5 days ago. She has been in surgical suit and has seemed interdst in getting to incision. However, she ran in yard and following day I noticed red seepage. My vet put her on antibiotics incase. No odor. Thought maybe was seroma. The seepage is on and off still for 48 hours. Below picture most recent today. Should I take her to vet since fluid is coming out on and off still? It dies get more bloody at times then picture showed

Hi and thanks for getting in touch with us!
The incision seems relatively healthy, with a small amount of dry discharge. Antibiotics will prevent any infection.
She should be checked only if the discharge is increasing and she seems uncomfortable and lethargic.
She should be absolutely kept indoors and rested as much as possible. A cone/buster collar should be kept on at all times.
