My dog has constant soft mushy stool. What causes it and what to do?

Unfortunately we have. I would highly recommend placing Echo on probiotics (i.e. Advita, Fortiflora, or Proviable) for roughly 2-4 weeks, adding 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the Pie filling) in his food daily, Purina EN Gastrointestinal food can be tried, and then consider having the stool rechecked through your veterinarian. Oftentimes if a pet has many worms they need multiple dewormings to get things to return to normal. I would try those suggestions first and see how Echo responds. If the stools still have not resolved after 2-4 weeks, then consider treating Echo with a long term antibiotic (i.e. Tylan powder) to treat for suspected inflammatory bowel disease. It is possible that Sophie has a dietary indiscretion to the current diet or treats you are feeding her. I would recommend trying a different meat protein and see if this helps or try a sensitive stomach formula to see if this helps as well. Sometimes switching to a completely different brand helps as well. If the problem persists, I would recommend having a veterinarian test her stool for fecal parasites just to be on the safe side. Hi there, Sorry to hear that Reggie is experiencing soft stools. Softer than normal stools can be caused by a wide range of things. New foods or treats, intestinal parasites, irritable bowel disease, and infectious causes (bacteria, viruses) can cause soft stools or diarrhea. If Reggie is experiencing any other clinical signs, such as lethargy, decreased appetite, vomiting, that may also help point in a diagnostic direction. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! How frustrating! I think that Nova is allergic to the dog food. I would change brands or meat protein. Animals can develop GI or skin allergies to their food at anytime. Be sure that you have had a fecal tested for parasites and he has been dewormed well. Since he is young parasites are high on the list and I still deworm them even if the stool sample is negative. I hope this helps!

Max may have chronic diarrhea related to several issues including GI parasites, food sensitivities, or internal medical issues like inflammatory bowel disease. I'd recommend having him examined by your veterinarian and having a stool sample checked out. It would also be a good idea to try a higher quality food like Royal Canin Sensitive stomach. You can also feed a bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice for a couple days to see if this helps. Often times a good sensitivity will develop later in life so Max may need a diet change to resolve the issue. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It sounds as if Ali may be dealing with a dietary sensitivity / indiscretion from the food she is on. About 65% of the time in cases of vomiting / diarrhea in dogs that are otherwise acting normal, the diet is the cause or an imbalance of the normal bacteria in the intestines. I would recommend transitioning to a completely different food altogether such as Science Diet, Royal Canin, Purina One or Natural Balance and feed this new diet for at least 4-6 weeks. If the diarrhea does not resolve after trying 2 - 3 different foods, I would have Ali examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
