My 15-year-old dog has a soft lump under her eye. Is it serious?

Hi there. There are many possibilities with a swelling like that. However, in that specific location I would be highly suspicious of a tooth root abscess. If you lift the lip and look at the tooth, often you can see abnormalities. Also if you apply gentle pressure to the lump you may see pus drain out over the tooth. Of course abscesses from other causes as well at tumor can not be ruled out at this time. Please have Gingi seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. I do recommend all growths be evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if they are something malignant (cancerous) or not. Additionally, with this growth so close to the eye, it may need to be removed in order to prevent issues if it were to grow. This can occur when there is damage to a large tooth in the back of the mouth. The root can become infected causing a swelling below the eye. Of course, there could be another cause. The veterinarian will examine him and may recommend anesthesia to determine if thisbis the case. The teeth can be cleaned and x-rays taken to look for an abscess. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. Without a picture or examining Laila it's difficult to say what is going on for sure. Dogs can get small tumors on their eyelids called meibomian gland tumors and normally these are benign. However, I'm a little concerned that it has gotten larger overnight. It could also be an area of infection or a more serious tumor type. If you can post a picture of Laila it may be helpful to give you further advice. If not, it would be best to err on the side of caution and have Laila examined by your veterinarian. Hello. That looks like a small growth/tumor that originated in a tear-producing gland. Without an actual biopsy, we cannot say the exact type or if it is benign/malignant. However, the majority are Meibomian Gland Adenomas and typically are benign. They can bleed, cause inflammation or infection and, if large enough, can irritate or even scratch the cornea. Hello. Just based on where the lump is located, I would suspect that Rialy has an infected tooth root. The 4th premolar is a common cause of infections that will pop out just under the eye. You can keep the area clean with a little peroxide, but you will need to see your vet on Monday to confirm this. If it is an abscessed tooth, Rialy will be put on antibiotics & probably scheduled for a dental procedure to clean & possibly remove the tooth. He will be fine afterwards.
