Is a soft lump at my dog's injection site normal after 2 weeks?

Hello and thank you very much for your question. What you were most likely experiencing is an injection site reaction. D’s can sometimes go away within 24 to 48 hours for these can stay for months. Sometimes these reactions can also be painful and elicit other immune responses such as difficulty breathing, etc. My best advice is to contact the veterinary clinic that administered the injections and tell them what you are experiencing. What most likely will happen is that they may want to re-examine your animal and possibly give you some topical or oral or injectable medication to offset the inflammation. Generally, these appointments do not cost anything and be makers of the vaccine take care of the costs associated. But this all depends on the veterinarian and the clinic involved. If he received injections at that time, this may be a reaction to the site of the injection, most of which resolve after approximately 6weeks. If there is any pain or heat in the area or if it continues to increase in size you should have it assessed by your vet to rule out growths or abscesses/infection

Many injections can cause temporary lumps which are generally painless and resolve over 4-6weeks. If there is any discomfort or heat in the area or it does not reduce over time you should have it checked by your vet to rule out more sinister causes

That is a very common occurrence after vaccination. The vaccine can cause a localized reaction and it should resolve on its own within a month. If it persists, seems larger, or bothers him that have your vet take a look at it.

This could be inflammation of the muscle but rarely an abscess can form at the site of an injection. As long as Cookie is otherwise completely normal she should be ok to wait until tomorrow to she her veterinarian.

Hello. It would be very unusual to get a injection site reaction 2 weeks later, & for it to be down from the original injection site. My guess is this might be a benign fatty lump called a lipoma, so just schedule a visit with your veterinarian at your earliest convenience to check this out. If your dog is an older pet, then lipomas can be quite common. Hopefully, that is all it is & she should be just fine ( but I am sorry she was heartworm positive ). I'm sorry but I'll need a bit more information to be helpful: 1) what injection did Cookie receive? 2) where is the post injection swelling? 3) What does it look like? 4) How is Cookie acting in regards to the swelling Some vaccinations cause harmless lumps that go away, specifically the Rabies. If the swelling has ruptured the best thing to do is use an Elizabethan collar (cone) or donut to prevent her from licking, shave the fur away, clean it with warm water and a gentle soap twice daily and apply a triple antibiotic ointment. Honestly though if the injection site ruptured I recommend seeing your Vet. I hope this helps but please repost with more info if you can. Have a good day!
