My dog sounds like he's snoring but can't breathe. What's happening?

This is a common issues in brachycephalic dogs like pugs, bulldogs, and frenchies. Many of these breeds require surgery to help assist them to breathe normally so depending on your dogs breed. This may be a consideration. Otherwise I would encourage your dog to sleep on its stomach with its head elevated. Make sure she is not overweight either as this will make the condition worse.

Bruno needs to be examined by the veterinarian. It's possible he has an infection, allergies or something trapped in the back of his throat. The veterinarian will preform a physical exam and then will go from there. He will likely receive medications to help him breath easier. Your dog may have an elongated soft palate that causes an intermittent obstruction of air flow. Usually it is self limiting and doesn’t cause issues but if this is happening consistently there is a surgery that can be performed to help open up the airway. If he truly has something caught in his trachea then this is an emergency. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Other causes of Cough and snoring type behavior include upper respiratory infection such as kennel cough, tracheal collapse in small breed dogs, And even heart disease. Harsh respiratory sounds are typically caused by some type of airway inflammation. Some underlying illness may be causing her to have a sore throat/nose. It is best to have her assessed by a veterinarian to make sure there are no signs of infection. If she is having difficulty breathing, I'd recommend having her assessed as soon as possible.

I would get her in to see your vet. Since the snoring and breathing noise is a recent development, it could mean she has a tumor or polyp somewhere in her upper respiratory tract that is causing the problem. Catching it early is the best for a good outcome.

This can be a number of respiratory issues including laryngeal paralysis, laryngeal obstruction, or just a benign condition called reverse sneezing, where it appears he is struggling to breathe but it is actually a tickling of the larynx and completely harmless. I would recommend recording the next episode on your phone and then showing the video to your vet for advise on what to do. If at any point your pet's tongue turns blue or he passes out or if you feel that he is in respiratory distress, then I encourage you to go to an ER vet.
