My dog has small sores on her paw and leg. What could they be?

It's possible that Feli has been licking or scratching this area, causing these abrasions. This type of lesion can develop pretty quickly - even overnight. Some of the most common causes of itching include allergies and fleas. Make sure that she's regularly receiving a good quality flea preventive (Bravecto, Nexgard, Credelio and Simparica are all great prescription options, and K9 Advantix II is available over the counter). You can also give her a bath in a gentle oatmeal or baby shampoo in case there are any lingering allergens on her coat causing irritation. You certainly don't need to rush her to a vet for these lesions alone, but if they get worse or spread, then you should take her to get checked out. When dogs scratch, they can damage the protective skin barrier, which can make them susceptible to developing skin infections. I hope that she's on the mend soon!

This could also be just a focal skin bacterial infection or secondary to an injury that has not healed, among other possibilities. You can use an e-collar to try to prevent further self trauma. I recommend that you have Tink evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Ringworm can be transmitted to humans so just in case this is what is going with Tink, wear gloves when handling this lesion. Good luck and best wishes!

Sores on the paws can occurr for many reasons. If it is a chronic issue, underlying allergies or a thyroid disorder are likely the issue. These conditions weaken the skin’s natural defenses and allow bacteria and yeast to set up opportunistic infections. The photo of Sammy‘s foot shows a round, pink lesion. It almost looks like some sort of a mass from the picture. I recommend to have Sammy visit his veterinarian to check that area out. If it is a mass, it should be aspirated as skin masses that look this way are suspicious for a cancerous skin growth called a mast cell tumor. It looks like he might have chewed a hot spot onto his foot. It may have started with a minor scratch or bug bite or allergies. That itched, he chewed it, which irritated the area, which makes it itch more, and so on. I recommend getting him seen by your vet soon to have his skin checked. After an exam and possibly some lab work, your vet will have a better idea what is going on and how best to treat it.
