What is this small, red, painless bump on my dog's chest?

It could be a benign mass, like a skin tag, that has become irritated. There is unfortunately also a type of skin cancer called hemangiosarcoma that can look like this though. I would recommend taking her into your vet. They will likely ask you how long it has been there, about any changes in size/shape, and recommend a small skin biopsy. Hello and thank you for your question. I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian. Skin masses can be many things but red/pink raised masses are especially concerning for a skin cancer called a Mast Cell tumor. This cancer can spread to the internal organs. Your veterinarian will need to collect a sample of cell to examine under the microscope to determine what this is and if further treatment is needed. Have this checked out soon. Fingers crossed this is not a MCT and is something benign instead but you can't tell by looks. I hope this helps.

If it does not bother Diesel at all and he is well in himself you could monitor him at home for 1-2 days. If it is a bruise or allergic reaction, it should go down without treatment. However, if it starts to bother your dog, please make an appointment with your local vets.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hi there and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! A singular small skin colored bump does not sound like evidence of an allergic reaction. Typically signs of an allergic reaction are hives under the skin, vomiting, diarrhea, and itching/scratching. With all else being normal, it is probably unlikely this bump is due to an allergy. It may be a small mass. If you are concerned, you can have this bump evaluated by a veterinarian. They may take a small sample of it in order to determine what it is and if it needs to be removed or not. Usually masses that are fast growing, bleed, itch, or have discharge coming from them are concerning and should be evaluated sooner rather than later. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. Chances are that this is a sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous cysts are usually harmless, sack-like growths with a lining that is not cancerous. In dogs, most cysts develop from hair follicles. These cysts typically appear as single, clearly defined, firm or soft lumps located in the skin or just beneath it. They are often between 0.5 to 5 centimetres in size and may sometimes have a bluish colour. A cyst can release a thick, gray-to-yellow-brown cheesy substance if it bursts. Other terms for sebaceous cysts in dogs include infundibular or follicular cysts. The lump needs to have a fine needle aspirate (FNA)/cytology to be sure of that diagnosis. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dexter is super cute! The most common mass that looks like your pictures is a sebaceous adenoma. They are benign skin growths. Some dogs can get multiple all over the body. They usually do not cause a problem unless the dog bothers them. Another possibility is a low grade mast cell tumor. If Dexter ever gets sedated or goes under anesthesia for another procedure just have them remove it. It is small and shouldn't take long. I hope this helps and have a great day!
