My puppy has a small, loose bone under its skin. What should I do?

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign growth or a malignant growth such as a mast cell tumor, melanoma, among many other possibilities. I recommend you have Houdini evaluated by your veterinarian for a test called fine needle aspirate which is an easy, quick and pain-free procedure which in the majority of cases will help reach a diagnosis to identify what the best course of action is based on the findings. In some cases, a biopsy is needed for a diagnosis. If it truly is benign then removal is not necessarily recommended. However, if it is malignant and it has not spread to other locations, then surgical removal is recommended. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed that it is something benign.

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I notice the bump on Clover but unfortunately, it is generally impossible to tell what the lump is based on appearance alone. It can be anything from a bug bite (especially since it has gotten smaller), a mass, an abscess, a cyst, a salivary gland or something else. If it is not bothering her right now and does not get bigger, I would monitor her. If it is still there in the morning, I would contact your veterinarian. Your vet may want to feel the area and determine if additional diagnostics are warranted such as a fine needle aspirate OR something else if it does not seem like a mass/cyst/abscess. Good luck!

Since Max is so young the most probable cause is a viral papilloma or an injury that has resulted in an abscess or local infection.
