Skunk sprayed my dog, now he's drooling. How to wash his mouth?

I would not be too concerned about Toadie ingesting some of the skunk’s spray. It is not harmful or toxic. Typically repeated bathing is the only way to get the skunk smell to dissipate. This will be very tricky with Toadie however because the odor is mostly coming from his mouth and it will be difficult to bathe this area. Just do the best you can washing his face/mouth with a cloth. The smell will go away eventually.

You can't use solutions or anything like that in the mouth since they are not safe to be ingested. You may try using this mixture on his chest and neck and that may help to get rid of some of the smell. There should be no ill effects apart from the smell :) The only problems we will usually see from skunk spraying is irritation of the eyes if they get sprayed in the eyes - so if you notice any squinting of the eyes you should wash them out through this eye wash and/or eye gel. Hi there. First make sure Ralphue is on appropriate flea preventative, as many flea bite allergies will present like this. An allergic reaction to the spray is also possible-as if is a new substance that has been introduced to his body. Benadryl is usually considered safe for itching of this nature and a dosage can be gotten from your veterinarian if you call (we cannot legally give you a dosage because of the nature of our company, and having not seen your pet in person). If he continues to bite and scratch the area I'd suggest an e collar or cone until the area is well again. Hope this helps!

Yes I would take him to your vet as both the skunk's liquid and peroxide can be quite irritant and cause itch. In the meantime wash him with water again and gently rinse/wash his eyes and face as well. Sometimes eye drops are needed to calm down the inflammation. a buster collar would be helpful if the itch persist. I am afraid, without actually smelling your dog, I could not tell you. However you should give your dog a bath and see whether you can wash off whatever he was sprayed with. This still may have been a skunk. If your dog still cannot open his eyes, he will have to be seen by a veterinarian after being washed, preferably this morning.

It is unlikely the skunk caused any problems for your dog. Oher than the foul odor, skunk musk is unlikely to cause any lasting health problems. It has been reported to cause anemia from damage to the red blood cells but this is an effect you would be seen within days after exposure, not months. Ask for a follow up with your veterinarian. Discuss your concerns about his weight loss, and the chronic vomiting/diarrhea. In addition to a physical examination, they may recommend additional tests such as bloodwork, urinalysis, and imaging of the body.
