My dog's skin is raw and bleeding after antibiotics for infection?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching (if any). The other signs are quite concerning and could be caused by a possible gastrointestinal infection. A check up would be absolutely needed. This is probably due to a severe allergy, although it could also be fleas or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat her with a high quality flea treatment (e.g. advantage), then get Bailey to the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. Clipping the hair off of the skin in this area may allow you and the vet to better evaluate the damage to the skin and monitor the progress of healing. Betty looks generally red, so my biggest suspicion is that she has environmental allergies. However, mange should be ruled-out as a cause as well. It is possible that the same infection has affected his gastrointestnal tract, that the antibiotics themselves have upset his natural gut flora, or even that it’s all coincidence and Russel simply ate something he should have. From what you are describing, a liquid bowel movement which has fresh blood in it, it sounds as though Russell has colitis, or inflammation of the last portion of the large intestines. There are several causes of colitis in dogs, ranging from bacterial infections, parasite infestations, IBD, stress, or ingestion of contaminated food. Since you have only noticed these issues for a day I would continue to monitor Russell at home. Provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast and white rice and plenty of fresh water. You can also add cooked mashed skinless sweet potatoes to help with the diarrhoea, a dog formulated probiotic, and low sodium chicken broth to help with fluid intake. If the episodes continue, if Russel becomes depressed, passes large amounts of blood, vomits, or seems very uncomfortable take Him to see his vet immediately. I am sorry to hear about Cujo. He may benefit from a topical ointment such as Animax which contains antibiotics but also steroids to help with inflammation. You can talk to your vet about getting this type of medication and it also may be a good idea to have your vet examine this area to ensure it is just irritation from the diarrhea and not something else such as an anal sac abscess or fistula. Your pup may also need an e-collar temporarily if he is licking at the area.

I would recommend taking Sugar to a veterinarian. There are a few different things that can cause skin like this. It could be allergies and she could just be so itchy that she is creating the infection. It could be fleas and you may just not see them. Even one flea can create bad reactions if the dog is allergic to them. There are different mites that can also make dogs very itchy which in turn leads to issues like this. It could also be an endocrine disorder if everything else is ruled out and then blood work is required to see what is going on with her. Your veterinarian can evaluate her skin, provide medication to help her feel so much better and pin point exactly what is causing this in Sugar.
