Why is my dog sick, shaking, not eating, and not improving with meds?

This sounds like a pretty complex situation, and I'd agree that an infection of some sort seems likely with a high WBC. I'd be worried about something viral, perhaps even meningitis, especially if it seems that she has neck pain, but that's basically a guess on my part. She should be tested for tick-borne diseases (Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, ehrlichia, babesia, Lyme) if that hasn't been done. I'm not sure how far you are from a specialty hospital, but it sounds like she's still not out of the woods, and in the absence of a definitive diagnosis, I too would be worried. I would recommend taking Sky to a specialty hospital, where they might be more capable of diagnosing the problem and getting her the appropriate treatment.

Hello. It often takes a bit of time for some infections to clear, but if you are concerned, please have her rechecked as soon as possible. This may be an indication that a new, or another antibiotic needs to be added to her treatment. Another option is to have her re-evaluated at a referral clinic, one that has multiple specialists. Sometimes, it takes a fresh pair of eyes to diagnose a difficult problem. Do not wait to see what happens since she is obviously worse. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! I am sorry to hear that suenos is not feeling well. If she is still not improving with what you have done I would get her to the vet as soon as you can. She may have become quite dehydrated from vomiting and having diarrhea. Your vet can replenish the fluid that she has lost with IV fluids or fluids under her skin. I would also want to know why she started having the vomiting and diarrhea in the first place. I would also recommend she have blood work run to ensure nothing systemic is wrong with her. Pancreatitis can show these symptoms and can cause quite a bit of discomfort in animals that are affected by it. There are blood tests that can be performed to confirm pancreatitis and your vet can surely check for this. X-rays might not be a bad idea to rule out an obstruction in the GI tract as a possible cause as well. Especially if she is a scavenger and eats random things, I would push to have abdominal x-rays done right away. I hope this helps and that she gets better! I hate to hear that Jersey is not feeling well. I do think the continuing diarrhea and regurgitation do indicate that she did not respond like she should have to the antibiotic. No knowing her full history, its hard to say what could be causing it but in puppies, parasites including Giardia are very common. You can also see infections in the GI tract, chronic foreign in bodies, organ dysfunction and food allergy as other causes. If Jersey is acting normal, has a good energy level and normal pink gums, I would recommend to make an appointment with her normal veterinarian to discuss next steps. The doctor may recommend a special diet, bloodwork and/or radiographs to start trying to figure out what is going on. She or he may also recommend special parasite testing depending on where you live. Feed Jersey small amounts of boiled white breast chicken meat and white rice. Make sure she is drinking water and keep her in a cool, comfortable area. If Jersey seems to be uncomfortable, has pale gums, seems weak or in distress, then you should go to the emergency clinic. She may be dehydrated from the vomiting and the shivering may not be due to her being cold but may be due to her not feeling well. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Poor Delilha. It sounds like there could be something serious going on, and it may be with her neck or back. I think she needs further testing to figure out what is causing her symptoms, so I would take her back into the vet in the morning for x-rays.

Hi! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thanks for the pictures! Gino's testicles look normal to me. I don't see any evidence of skin disease. I don't think he is shaking because of his testicles or penis. I am worried about him with the constant shaking and now not eating and bloody diarrhea. Causes of bloody diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, metabolic conditions like liver/kidney disease or Addison's disease, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, food allergy/intolerance. You can start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 days of normal stool. Gino sounds like he is significantly painful: he could have joint disease, Lyme disease, panosteitis or other growing disease. He REALLY needs to see a Vet at least for an exam. You can ask for a financial estimate before agreeing to tests and medications. With out examining him myself I can't tell you exactly what is wrong. I hope this helps and I wish Gino the best~!
