My dog is suddenly sick and can't pee, eat, or poop. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pekingese | Male

My dog randomly started acting sick yesterday. He is having trouble peeing, eating, laying down and he is not able to poop. He’s a small/medium 12 year old Pekingese but he acts like a puppy and he is very healthy.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Tyty's symptoms sound rather serious and can be an indication of certain cancers, infections, or even foreign bodies. I recommend having him seen by a vet as soon as possible - especially because he is having trouble urinating, which can result in build up of toxins in the body normally filtered by the kidneys. I am happy to answer any other questions you may have and hope all is well with your dog!
