My Lab has short legs & big head. Is he a dwarf? What are symptoms?

Nothing seems abnormal based on this pictures but that does not replace a good exam. If you are worried about confirmation or a bone problem then she needs to see a vet. They can actually move her legs evaluate the joints and bones to make sure there are no problems. If indicated they can even do an X-ray although she is too youn for hip dysplasia to show up

It is possible that he has Lyme disease which is transmitted by tick bites and can cause joint pain/stiffness and difficulty moving. An Accuplex or 4DX heartworm /Lyme blood test is recommended to rule this out. A Thyroid T4 blood test is also recommended to rule out hypothyroidism which can present as lethargy. Chest and Abdominal xrays to rule out cancer or other major abnormalities as well as a fecal exam to rule out intestinal parasites and a urinalysis to rule out kidney/bladder issues that may not be picked up on regular screening bloodwork could also provide helpful information. What you are describing can be normal in a hyper growing puppy that is still perfecting his coordination; however there are a few developmental disease that large breed puppies can get that can cause some altered gaits and intermittent lameness. Exercise will help if it is normal but may make it worse if there is a developmental problem. I would schedule an appointment with your vet to have Clive checked for an development disease

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If you want to rule out hypothyroidism 100% you should have a profile done that includes fT4, TSH, T3, fT3. I like the profile to Michigan State. With that being said, hypothyroidism at 21 months old is exceedingly rare. It occurs in larger breed dogs more commonly. These dogs have stunted growth, have retention of "puppy coat," orthopedic abnormalities due to delayed growth plate closure and many other obvious abnormalities. Dynasty looks very normal. Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I strongly recommend taking Lardo in for an orthopedic exam. The knots may be related to his limping or it may be something else entirely. Labs can be prone to hip dysplasia and stifle (Knee) problems. Arthritis can also cause worsening lameness. I would suggest an exam to narrow down the cause then the vet may suggest xrays to get a better idea of the problem. Cancer or infection can also affect bones and joints. A full exam will help to narrow down the cause of his pain so an appropriate diagnosis can be made. Please do not give over the counter pain medication, as many are toxic to dogs. Hello. I would agree that the female does not have the typical confirmation of a border collie. This may indicate a possible congenital problem, a type of dwarfism, but most likely there were two fathers for this litter. Because of the way a female dog ovulates, you could have two different males inseminate a single pregnancy. The only other option is the breeder intentionally duped you. Great question. Hypothyroidism is very common in labradors but can easily be diagnosed with a simple blood test performed by your local veterinarian. Seasonal alopecia can also occur but typically can be eliminated with routine bathing and grooming. Since your dog is un-neutered, much of your dog's nutrition is going into energy and activity, so be sure to feed a high quality diet with plenty of fat for energy and haircoat production. Usually the better diets are highly digestible and produce low stool volume compared to cheeper diets. Bottomline, if you're worried about thyroid disease, ask your veterinarian to pull blood and rule it out, otherwise feed great diet and bath/groom as needed to control hair loss. If the coat doesn't look right, then schedule an appointment to have it examined to check for other possible causes such as parasites, allergies, or nutritional causes, Good luck and thanks.
