My dog is shedding and losing weight after puppies. What supplements?

After having puppies they go through a lot of changes and their hormones are sometimes out of wack. I would recommend to give her a dog omega 3 fatty acid to help with her coat. If she continues to have thin or dull haircoat then I would contact your vet to do a thyroid test on her to make sure that is normal. One of my favorite breed books has a great line about Pugs. In describing how much they shed, it says, "A LOT...Yes, a lot!" Pugs shed much more than you would expect based on their size and coat. If Harley is developing area of hair loss, certainly have your vet examine her, but otherwise her shedding may just be normal. I would talk to your vet about checking her thyroid hormones. It is probably unlikely but definitely possible that her thyroid is too high causing weight loss and hair loss. I would also make sure she is on a high quality dry and canned cat food to help increase the caloric intake. If you aren't planning on breeding her, I would consider getting her spayed as long as she is healthy enough per your vet. I would definitely continue the vitamins. Also, I would talk to your vet about ruling other things out if they haven't already like parasites, giardia, feline leukemia, feline aids, and more. I hope this helps!

Excessive shedding is not likely due to a vitamin or mineral insufficiency if Tippy Toes eats a commercial dog food, but some dogs do seem to respond to a change in diet. It is also possible that she is a seasonal shedder and that this is normal for her. If she seems itchy or her skin is dry and flaky or red I would recommend seeing your veterinarian since some skin diseases can also cause excessive shedding. You could ask about recommended diets during your visit.
