My husky puppy is shaking, tripping, and breathing fast. What's wrong?

This is an emergency and Husky needs to go to the vet as soon as possible. Dogs are very good at masking illness and will only be lethargic like this when they are severely ill, or in shock. This can happen from an infection, heart disease, lung disease, metabolic disease, brain disease, or poisoning. The fact that Husky is breathing fast is very concerning that she is not getting enough oxygen, which can quickly become deadly if not treated appropriately. The emergency clinic will be able to ensure that she is well oxygenated and can determine that cause of this problem. I hope everything goes well and Husky gets better soon.

Hi. Poor Rylee. The first thing I would say is that you need to take her to the ER this evening. Respiratory distress can be very serious. In Raley's case, it sounds like her kennel cough could be turning into pneumonia. She will need a good exam, and radiographs. That is most likely the issue and a common occurrence in severe kennel cough cases. Unfortunately another possibility we have to keep in the back of our mind, although rare, would be distemper virus. Distemper is a virus that affects a dog’s respiratory, gastrointestinal, respiratory and central nervous systems, as well as the conjunctival membranes of the eye. The signs of canine distemper can include sneezing, coughing and thick mucus coming from the eyes and nose. Fever, lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea, and loss of appetite are also symptoms of the virus. Let's start with an exam a x-rays of the chest a review of her vaccine status. Good luck

Huskies are certainly able to overheat more easily than other breeds due to their thick coat. All of the clinical signs could potentially be related to something like that as well, but could be an indication of something entirely different. If there has only been episode of vomiting and some mild lethargy, I don't think it is entirely unreasonable to take a wait and see approach. If the rapid breathing becomes even more labored or Midna actually appears to be in any true distress, I would not delay and would take her into the veterinarian as soon as possible. As of now, it sounds like she's still eating, drinking, and functioning pretty normally. Keep a close eye on Midna, particularly the breathing, and should it worsen have her looked at right away.

Please have Leilani seen by a vet right away. It sounds like she may be dealing with a neurologic problem, and she is likely suffering. It is difficult to give a prognosis without further diagnostics, as she could also be dealing with weakness from systemic diseases, low blood sugar, trauma, or toxin ingestion. A vet visit is needed immediately to determine the cause of his signs and guide treatment, as the prognosis could worsen drastically without treatment. There are other possible causes of tremors like electrolyte imbalances that should be investigated as that can cause disease and sometimes be corrected. That is usually investigated with basic bloodwork. Other possibilities include neurologic disease. Hello. I am sorry that Laika is having problems. It sounds like she has a few issues going on. In regards to her vomiting and eating grass, she may have food allergies so you can try a diet trial with a different food to see if that helps. With her breathing, if she is reverse sneezing this is normal and can happen frequently. If this isn't reverse sneezing then having radiographs done of her throat/chest, and sometimes fluoroscopy (an active x-ray which is in 'real time' to see motion) can be helpful at finding the problem. Seizures can be caused by many different factors including metabolic disease, organ disease, intracranial problems (masses, vascular events), toxins, epilepsy, etc. To work up seizures you start with general bloodwork, and if this is normal you pursue imaging in the head, so MRI is often indicated. If you would like to pursue a complete work-up with Laika then talk to your vet about an internal medicine consultation, or possible neurologist specialist consultation. Good luck with Laika.

Sasha is so cute, but I'm sorry she's doing poorly! If she is limping, she is breathing heavily, trembling, and panting a lot, this can be a sign she is in pain. This would explain why she couldn't even go up the the stairs. If she's finally laying down and isn't showing any of this signs you described in your post, I would keep an eye on her for now and make an appointment for her with the vet in the morning. Now if these symptoms you are describing are continuing, then I think having her seen by a vet now would be best. In this case, please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies.
