Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Head tremors can be observed with neurologic conditions or even electrolyte imbalances. I recommend that you have Buddy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They are likely going to perform and examination to be followed by bloodwork which should help start sorting this out. A referral to a veterinary neurologist may be recommended. Good luck!

Yes, I would definitely take Hoss to the vet for an exam. Head tremors are not normal and this is a concerning sign, especially if they seem to be getting worse and he is also acting "off" or unusual in other ways as well. I would be concerned that he may have a neurologic illness such as meningitis or encephalitis, a stroke or bleeding problem in the brain, or even a brain tumor. Certain types of toxins can also cause neurologic symptoms like this. Your vet can do a complete neurologic exam, and may also recommend blood work or other testing to help diagnose the problem and see what can be done to treat it.

I recommend making an appointment to have Bindi seen by your veterinarian. It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish idiopathic head tremors from seizure activity, and your vet can examine Bindi, look at the video, and if necessary run some tests to help figure out if there is reason to be concerned, or if it truly is idiopathic head tremors, which are not concerning.

It could be that there is something irritating Orvia's ear or nose, itchy skin, a bug bite causing a reaction, neurologic or muscular issues, or more. My Jack Russell is shaking his head and trembling. What's wrong?

Idiopathic head tremors (head tremors of unknown cause) can occur in dogs of any age. These episodes are usually self limiting and can often be interrupted by distracting your dog with treats. However, head tremors can also be secondary to underlying metabolic diseases or electrolyte imbalances. They can also progress to full blown seizures. Because of this, I would recommend you get Patch checked out by your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Why is my dog shaking her head and scooting her butt on the floor?

It is difficult to know exactly what you mean but you may mean head bobbing which may be due to something wrong with her neurologic system. It may be something else of course. The scooting may be due to anal sac issues. I would recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check what may be wrong so that therapy is recommended accordingly. It would be a good idea to take a video of this to be able to show to your veterinarian. My dog is shaking his head, ears clean, no discharge. What's wrong?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

My dog is shaking and vibrating. What causes dog tremors or shivers?

Tremors or shaking can have a variety of causes- congenital (see more in younger dogs), toxins, metabolic disorders, or organ dysfunction. It could also be a focal or partial seizure. My advice is to have Layla examined by her veterinarian and some blood work as well as imagine done to help determine a cause. I hope this helps and best wishes to you and Layla!

My dog shook, head tilted, limped, then recovered. What caused it?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Peter! How old is Peter? The most common condition that causes trouble walking, falling over, head tilt and trembling is Vestibular disease. This is a problem with the balance center in either the brain or the inner ear. Possible causes are an ear infection, stroke, low thyroid, a brain tumor or if he is just old it can be idiopathic (meaning we don't know why). I have seen dogs become Vestibular and then be normal that quickly, though usually the signs can persist for up to 2 weeks. I am not sure about the relation to the food you are feeding. If he shows the symptoms again I would immediately take him to your Vet for an exam. Consider video taping it so you can show them in case it goes away quickly again.
