Seresto collar failed for dog fleas. What are the best alternatives?

I recommend oral flea & tick preventatives. There are several brands, and all are effective: Nexgard, Simparica, and Credelio are monthly, or Bravecto which is given every 12 weeks. The only flea collar that appears to work well is the Seresto collar. And even then, I can have a slower rate of kill for the fleas. The top products on the market our oral products such as some Perica and next guard. For most pets, these are good options that I recommend to call your veterinarian first and doublecheck. Also, you will need to treat all the pets in the household for six months to make sure you get through the entire fleet lifecycle. Best of luck.

I would not recommend using Frontline Plus for dogs living in Florida. Frontline has been around a long time and it seems as though fleas are becoming resistant to it . I suggest you try one of the new oral flea/tick pills (Nexgard, Bravecto or Simparica). Also, all pets in the house should be on a monthly flea prevention.

The Seresto flea/tick collar is the only one on the market that is safe and effective - the others, including Adams, are often dangerously toxic for the dog and not effective at all for fleas in my experience. Advantix is definitely a better choice than PetArmor, but the most effective option available for fleas and ticks currently would be an oral medication like Nexgard or Bravecto. I would recommend getting a prescription from your veterinarian for one of these medications, if possible - this will eliminate the need for any topical medication or flea collars, and will also work much better.

Fleas can be frustrating to treat. I know that many people have a lot of success with Seresto collars, but I have not. In order to treat Bandit’s fleas, I recommend using a good quality topical product, such as Advantage (use monthly) or Bravecto (prescription based and used every 3 months). Flea shampoos are rarely effective and can cause irritation to the skin, so I tend to steer clear of them. Be sure to vacuum daily, dispose of the vacuum bag frequently, and wash Bandit’s bedding in hot water. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. No, it's not recommended to combine those. Take the Seresto collar off, and I can give you a flea treatment program for Indi. First, I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.
