A large breed dog is considered a senior around 7 years of age. Milk thistle is used in some dogs mainly as liver support. The most common side effect is diarrhea. Because it is a supplement and not a medication there haven't been many studies done but anecdotally it carries few risks. A dog Bruno's breed is considered to be senior generally above 7 to 8 years of age. Milk thistle generally is safe as long as not given in excess. There are several veterinary products you can consider including Denamarin that have appropriate dosages on the side of the box based on weight.
