My dog's seborrhea is raw and painful. What can I do tonight?

Poor Cooper! It sounds like you're already on the right track for ruling out issues, however, environmental allergens can also flare up this time of year which may be causing the excessive itchiness. Since that area is very badly irritated and inflamed, I definitely agree with getting into your vet ASAP. Since it's right on his neck, you can try inverting an Elizabethan (cone) collar so that the cone part covers the irritation and the neck park sits up closer around his ears, so that it doesn't rub against the irritated spot and protects it from further scratching. Keeping the area clean and dry can also help reduce any secondary infections that may take hold in the irritated skin. An over the counter allergy medication such as Benadryl can also help by reducing any irritation/itchiness, and may also have the added benefit of making him a little drowsy so he's less likely to scratch. However, getting into the vet like you planned is the best course of action. If there is a big wound opening up, it gets worse, it oozes debris, or Cooper seems in major distress, getting into your vet sooner or reaching out to an urgent care vet may be a good idea.

For relief of the itching / discomfort, you can use a product called Sentry Hydrocortisone spray which can be found at Petco. I also like using Pramosoothe spray, which can be found online. These products can be applied 2-3 times per day to help with the relief. I would try and find out why Rocco is so prone to the allergies though to help with the overall problem rather than masking the symptoms of the problem. If this is a year round issue, he may have a disease called Atopic Dermatitis, which can be treated but can be difficult and expensive to manage. I would also recommend Welactin Omega 3 fish oil capsules. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Hello, this looks like a case of moist dermatitis, or a hot spot, sometimes caused by an allergy. You can gently clean this with an antibacterial solution like Hibiclens available at all pharmacies. Then apply a light coating of 1% hydrocortisone twice a day. It should look better in a day or so, but if not, please see your veterinarian for further treatment. Thank you.

Poor Cooper! Skin lesions can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, or a combination of the above. Based on the pictures it looks like Cooper’s skin is likely causing him pain, but dogs are very good at hiding signs of discomfort. I recommend making an appointment to have Cooper seen by your veterinarian to help determine the cause of the sores you’ve noticed and to make sure they are treated appropriately. The vet will likely wan to look at a sample from the area under the microscope to determine if there is an infection and to figure out what medication is appropriate for treatment.

This area commonly stays moist and can develop a skin infection because of this. I would recommend using Malacetic Conditioning Spray (can be found online) and apply to the area twice daily until resolved. I would also recommend using a steroid spray (Petco has a spray called Well & Good Hydrocortisone spray) and apply twice daily as well to help relieve inflammation. If this does not resolve or it worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! Poor Shorty! He does sound quite uncomfortable. You can try bathing him in an aloe and oatmeal dog shampoo, or using a topical hydrocortisone spray labeled for dogs - you should be able to find this at most pet stores. These things may help to soothe his skin and help relieve the itching until he can see a vet. He will probably need prescription medication including an antibiotic and a short-term steroid like prednisone to treat the problem effectively, so I would definitely recommend having him seen by a vet on Monday if at all possible.

That looks pretty irritated. Its possible that she's got an underlying allergy, but that skin looks infected. I strongly recommend you get in to see your vet. She may need antibiotics.
