Why is my dog constantly scratching? Are there at-home allergy tests?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered

Our four year old boxer is scratching and licking all the time and gets very stressed going to the vets. We have tried several foods but with no success. He is ok when on steroids but don't want him on these long term. Is there any type of test we can do at home. He also has a grade 3 heart murmur

I am not sure about at home testing, but there is allergy testing available for dogs through several different companies. They will test for a variety of allergens, food and non-dietary in type. I would agree that long term corticosteroid therapy is not ideal for you or Toby and should be avoided if at all possible.
