Poor Hacker! He could have allergies to a variety of things throughout the year. I would give him Benadryl twice a day and also you can by Benadryl spray or cream to help. I would also put a cone on him to prevent any licking. Finally, you can purchase a medicated shampoo and bathe him every 48-72 hours. I like duoxo chlorhexidine or dechra miconahex+triz shampoos. If these home remedies don't work, then I would recommend to have your vet look at him as he will likely need oral antibiotics and possibly a stronger allergy medicine. I hope this helps. Poor Maxx. Allergies are no fun, you can try a few at home remedies, but if he doesn't get relief he honestly may need a veterinary visit. Antihistamines can be hit or miss in dogs but you can certainly try Benadryl twice daily if it gives him some relief. You can also soak his feet in lukewarm Epsom salt solution once or twice daily. Malaseb shampoo may help if there is any yeast or bacterial infection component to his itching. When using the medicated shampoos I typically recommend lathering them up, especially affected areas and allowed to soak for up to 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing. If you have a crate or someplace Maxx can hang out while sudsy that helps. And for dogs that will not leave their feet alone I strongly recommend getting an E collar. Sometimes you have to break the cycle of the scratching and licking before seeing any improvement. If there are open sores or very raw areas I would recommend trying to do a veterinary visit as that indicates secondary infection and will likely need systemic treatment as well. Hello, sorry to hear about Marcelino. There are a couple of things you can try, but may or may not have a good outcome. Most of the time, dogs will bite and itch from allergies. You would need to have these treated to gain the best control on your dog's itching. However, if his biting and itching is mild, then you could try to bathe him with a skin sensitive shampoo 2-3 times weekly. You can also wipe his paws and belly with skin sensitive wipes after coming in from being outdoors to decrease the exposure form environmental allergens. Again, most of these have different response and Marcelino may not stop his biting completely. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This is a common area for a dog to itch when they have flea allergies. Unfortunately, flea baths only remove fleas on the skin at the time of the bath. They do not prevent other fleas from jumping on later. Twitchy would need a good flea preventative and may need a prescription anti-inflammatory to help with the itching. Other causes of itching in this area include fungal infection, deep pyoderma (bacterial infection), and mites. A vet will do a thorough examination and may collect a sample to be examined under a microscope. Hair loss on the feet could be caused by excessive licking or may be related to the cause of the itching around the butt.

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear about Tucker's troubles. First off, I'm not sure if Tucker is eating a prescription hypoallergenic diet. If he isn't, and it's over the counter, there is always the possibility of allergy-causing contaminants getting into the food. Also, since Tucker is so sensitive to food, I would avoid the rice and pasta for now. Since Tucker is very itchy and uncomfortable, and and to also check and make sure that he hasn't caused a secondary infection. chewing and licking at himself, I would definitely make an appointment for him to see his veterinarian to get him some stronger medications than benadryl to control the itch, Even then, his allergies may only be somewhat controlled, and his veterinarian may recommend that he see a dermatologist. The dermatologist can test him and see exactly what he is allergic to. In turn, they can create injections to help reduce his sensitivity to the allergens that bother him. In the meantime, I would get a cone for Tucker that goes a few inches past his nose. This will help prevent him from licking and chewing himself and like I mentioned above, causing a secondary infection. I hope you find this answer helpful. Best of luck!
