My dog scraped his head. How do I treat a dog's forehead wound?

Hello, poor Klien! It looks like the scrape is superficial. I would clean it once with soap and water, the monitor it for any bleeding or other discharge. It should be able to scab over and heal on its own otherwise. If it has not healed in 5-7 days you should have your veterinarian evaluate it. You may use a small amount of neosporin if you find it necessary, but be sure it does not come in contact with his eye. Hope this helps.

I think applying a triple antibiotic like Neosporin twice daily for 7-10 days would be a good idea. This may make Zelda to be itchy. For this reason, if you notice her scratching at her head, use an e-collar to prevent self-trauma as that may delay healing. Otherwise, this should heal well shortly. Good luck and have a great day!

Based on the photo you provided, it appears as though Stitch has an abrasion that may be secondarily infected. It does not look very deep based on the photo. If you are unable to get to a veterinarian to have this looked at right away, you can use a diluted solution of betadine and saline (mixed together until you have a light brown liquid) and use this to clean the abrasion of any contaminants. Once clean, you can then use a topical cream such as Sentry Topical Wound cream (applied to the area twice daily until resolved) found at your local Petco. I would also recommend that you use a plastic cone around his head to help prevent him from rubbing his head, which would further worsen the area. If this does not improve or it worsens, I would then recommend having a veterinarian examine Stitch so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hello, sorry to hear about Dutch. I would be concerned about this being some form of trauma or even an ulcerated nodule over his head. You could monitor that area for bleeding, pain, discharge, further hair loss, and the area becoming bigger. Neosporin should help keep the area clean, however, after 3 days it may slow down healing so you may need to discontinue it in about that time. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I would not recommend using any appointments or peroxide is that can cause worsening irritation. It will probably heal up just fine, but if you notice any swelling or discharge I recommend that does it to rule out infection or need for antibiotics.

While this may be caused by a bite from another dog, from my experience, this looks a little bit more like a wound from nudging something constantly with the nose. Perhaps nudging a door to a crate, or sticking his nose under a door repeatedly. I recommend keeping a close eye on the area, and maybe even getting Bear an E-collar or "cone" so that he does not cause further trauma to the area. I advise against applying antibiotic ointments such as Neosporin as Bear is likely to lick them off quickly. I hope this helps and that all is well with Bear!

Clean it with soap and water to get the scab off. From there you can apply neosporin to prevent the scab from reforming and to keep the infection under control if needed. If this does not help then you will need to see your vet for further treatment
