My Boston Terrier is sad after pet loss. How do I help him cope?

Otherwise, you can also consider taking him for walks frequently for him to see other people and other pups which may help. I hope he gets better!

Try getting him out and going places with you if he likes rides. Make play dates with friends who have dogs so he can play and have the company of other dogs. If you are ready, consider adopting another pet so he has a playmate and companionship. Try gently encouraging him to play with you, teach him tricks or get him involved in a group activity like agility. I hope you can find him something to spark his interest and get him engaged again.

I am sure it is very difficult to be going through this. Dogs are emotional and can become distressed / sad when a loved one passes away. Unfortunately, it just takes time. There are some things you can try to help ease the stress for Sadie. I would recommend the below products and see if these help. I'm very sorry you recently lost one of your dogs! It sounds like Bonsai is grieving, and that does happen when they lose a companion. This grieving will pass over time, and he will return to normal. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your pup. Depression and mourning are very normal in dogs, especially after the loss of a close companion. It may be that Aysha needs some more time to mourn, and some extra attention, care and loving would help. Sticking to a schedule can also help her return to a more normal routine. If she is still having lots of issues, speaking with a local vet or veterinary behaviorist to see if medication would be helpful may also be beneficial for her.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Pets grieve, just as we do. Try to keep your dog's daily routine as normal as possible, while giving your dog some extra attention and exercise as a distraction. Ultimately, grief takes time to process for our four legged friends, just as it does for us.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am so sorry for the loss of your husband! I think animals mourn as well and they can pick up on our stress and anxiety. I would call your vet and ask for medications for Sophia. I would consider a long acting anti-anxiety medication like prozac and also a short acting medication to use in the beginning for when you leave her. I would hope with time you can wean her off these medications. I would provide something of your husbands for her to keep in her crate or bed that you can give her. If she doesn't have food allergies consider giving her a Kong filled with food (there are recipes online) and keep the radio or TV on for her. If she likes other dogs you can even sign her up for doggie day care and drop her off there for the day. I wish you all the best!
