My dog's ribs are bumpy years after accident. Is it an old injury?

Hello, Greyhounds are predisposed to cancers of the leg bones, which is why we always like to take x-rays whenever a senior greyhound starts limping. I am concerned with your description of being able to feel bone and unsure whether that is normal for him or not. Another muscle strain could be treated with Previcox just the same as the last one. Hello. This is pretty interesting. Are you sure he just does not have an area of thinning hair? This can sometimes look like a depression in the skin. If not, then muscle can atrophy & shrink a bit if there was some possible injury or trauma to the area. Unfortunately, I just can not tell you if this is serious or not & the best thing to do is have him evaluated, especially if you are sure that this is not thinning hair & when you run your hand over the area, there is a real indentation or depression. Dogs commonly have their last rib as a "floating rib". That means that there isn't any cartilage that connects it to the sternum. What that means is that the last rib (or sometimes 2) will appear to end suddenly and you can feel a hard bump on their side at the bottom of their rib cage. This can be on just one side or both. Often we don't notice it until they are a little older even though it has always been there. If Lunar is painful, I would certainly recommend having your veterinarian examine him. Opie looks pretty normal in the pictures. It may be that he's just getting a bit overweight. If he's breathing normally, not panting while resting and calm, has good energy and appetite, then it's probably ok to watch it and just keep an eye on his weight. If he's doing anything funny, or you just have a bad feeling about it, it's worthwhile to have a quick exam to make sure it's normal. Good luck!

Pictures may help but this sounds like it may be a birth defect or injury and xrays may be required to assess fully what is going on. I would recommend an urgent vet check if there is any weakness, reduced growth rate compared to the others or panting/rapid breathing

Yes, I would have it relooked at to be safe. Without seeing it in person, I can't say if it's normal or not, so it's always good to have any concerning part of your dog's body checked out by a vet.
