My dog has red stool and vomited. Is it from new Beggin' Strips?

Hello. Penny may have picked up an infection that is causing her gastrointestinal symptoms. I would withhold all food & water for the next 6-8 hours, & offer the rice again. I like to use the whole grain, sticky rice & not a minute or instant rice. The glutens seem to help bind them up a little better. You can also add a little cooked chicken, but the majority should be the rice. If Penny is no better by Monday, please see your veterinarian as she may need to be on antibiotics, as well. Hello, sorry to hear about Penny. It sounds like she may have intermittent inflammation of her colon (colitis). This could be associated with parasites in puppies this young. Other causes could include viruses such as parvo. Finally, any dietary indiscretion (getting into something they shouldn't have) could lead to this as well. I recommend that Penny is evaluated by her veterinarian to check her stools for any worms. Additionally, she may be fed a bland diet for the next 5 days, which may be composed of plain white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. If this does not improve clinical signs, then she should be checked by her veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.

The color of the vomit could be caused by some blood (e.g. an injury in the esophagus) or coloring of the food he ate or severe inflammation somewhere in the gastrointestinal tract. Diarrhea and throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Max for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or stays bloody, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. The chicken jerky strip could be the cause of the poop with some blood in it. It's a new bag, it may be a new formula. I can give you a home remedy for Birdie to see if that helps. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the the blood in her poop continues on the bland diet, she develops diarrhea, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Oh no, poor Sophie! It is concerning that her vomit is turning pinkish, and that can be a sign of blood. Vomiting blood is very serious. I will give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps, but if her vomit continues to be pinkish or gets redder, you need to rush her into a vet immediately. In the future, do not feed her bacon. It's too high fat for dog and causes pancreatitis. It's never recommended to feed a dog bacon or any pork products. I hope this helps!
