My dog has a red sore on his penis. Is it safe to put cream on it?

I would not recommend any home remedies in such a sensitive area! If the area becomes painful or infected you should schedule an appointment with your vet for full investigation to rule out injury/infection/tumor growth and to prescribe appropriate oral medication

Although a picture of it would help to give more specific answers, generally speaking, yes you can apply sudocream on his cream twice daily for 48hours at least. If you do not notice any improvement a check up would be necessary though to determine underlying nature of the skin problem. Ouch! Poor Dylan! This looks like a little local infection that he has been licking. I would place an e-collar I him to prevent licking. You can clean it with mild soap and water. And I would also put some neosporin on it twice a day. If it is not improving in the next day or two then I would definitely take him in to see your veterinarian for an exam. Your vet will be able to prescribe some oral anabiotics and some stronger topical medicine if needed. If at any point he is not eating or is lethargic then I would also take him to your vet. That may have been razor burn at one point, but appears infected (aka pyoderma) now. It's difficult to put any creams of this, because they will usually be licked off. Cortizone is not advised, because it can actually allow the infection to get worse. The best thing you can do is to flush the area with water for two minutes twice a day, then clean the area with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) twice a day until the skin starts to appear more normal. If it doesn't start to look better in a week, or seems to get worse, then you'll want to take Palmer into the vet for an exam. If the cut is small and looks as if it can heal on its own you can try cleaning it with a dilute iodine solution 1-2 times a day. You can also apply a small amount of triple antibiotic ointment on the area. It is important to make sure he is not lickin the area, as this can delay healing and make infection worse. If the cut is any larger than 1-2 centimeters then I would recommend having it looked at by a vet because it may have trouble healing. I hope this helps. Hello, sorry to hear about Milo. It looks like he is having a degree of balanoposthitis or inflammation of the foreskin of his penis. This can be caused by bacterial infections and rarely malignant tumors (only seen here in the united states if traveling). He may need antibiotics to treat his infection. The area is very sensitive, therefore avoid handling it excessively. Have your veterinarian take a look at the area and decide wether Milo needs any medications. Hope this helps and best of luck.

That appears to be moist dermatitis. Rukas really needs to see a vet for this condition. He also has some dermatitis in the groin area that I can see in the picture. Since the sores next to the penis are open and weeping he will likely need oral antibiotics to get that to clear up. While you are waiting to get him an appointment at your vet you can apply a thin layer of Neosporin to them 2-3 times per day but he will likely just lick it off.
